Superbike bars on the K1200R

Post by LesKoh »

I was wondering if anyone's thought about swapping out the original K12R bars for superbike bars? AC Schnitzer has a complete kit for this and got me wondering if this would improve the ergos and handling of the bike. A penny for your thoughts?

If I had one, I would go for that. I sold my Hayabusa because of the ergos, now you can get superbike bars and way lowered begs...

The superbike bars look like they'll improve on the ergos and likely the handling as well, but yes, I'm pretty concerned too about the windblast from the more upright position. I've got the bigger screen and I still have to 'tuck in' a little at high speeds to get out of the blast zone.

They just look wrong... If you want a GS, buy a GS.

Gotcha. I think the reference to the ergos of a GS are a little exaggerated but I get what they're trying to imply. I don't think the superbike bars will get you full GS-like, sit-up-and-beg ergos but it looks like it'll be enough to put you above any wind protection the sports screen will afford you. While the stock bars are fine on the open roads and sweepers, I was just thinking the slight rise would make the rides through the city and slow traffic (which is half my commute) more tolerable. Cheers.

Les...how-de-doodie...those bars look ok to me but that's gotta cost a lot and a lot of mucking around changing the top triple clamp...when the new K1200GT comes out (soon) it should have a higher bar that should fit straight on..and that will keep it all genuine BMW..and hopefully not cost as much.

BTW...here's the bar setup on the power cup bikes that were at Phillip Island Moto Gp.

OR...you could go for something like this..

Thanks for the link DJ!

I've been searching for a front end stand and there it is!

Oh, I wouldn't consider changing the bars on my KR. I like 'em just the way they are. I might powdercoat it black...

Hey DJ, thanks for the pics and links. Is it me or does the left bar look longer in the pic of the BoxerCup K12R? The MV risers look good and will do away with the need to mess with the triple clamp but I'm not sure if I want to muck around with the cables. Anyhow, riding in to work today, everything felt good - cool morning, light traffic - all's well and I think I'll pass on changing anything for now. Thanks guys for your thoughts and input.
