Rockster popped out of gear today...........

Post by elmosisu »

I was full throttle accelerating on a freeway on-ramp and mis-shifted into third, and...........pop.......RRRRRRRR.......overrev, and continued to accelerate and shift normally. I contined to the next exit and went through the gears and everything seemed okay. I know that you can damage your gear "dogs" by having this happen, but i'm wondering, since this is the first time in 8000 miles, if this did anything at all.

I seem to shift smoother, when under full acceleration, by "speed shifting" rather than clutching..................i've heard that speed shifting can also be hard on the tranny, but I popped my shift out when shifting with the clutch.

has anyone else had a gear pop out under acceleration?
Everyone needs to believe in something.......I believe I'll have another beer.

I was just cruising in third gear on the RT yesterday and it popped in to neutral by itself - first time that ever happenned. I have 4K on the clock so if it doesn't recur I'll address it at the 6K maintenance. It's a bit of a clunky shifter which I attribute to "growing pains" and the fact it is not yet broken in - but I'm watching it closely.

Out of gear!!!

Post by Acacia »

Yes, Saturday.

Powered out of some twisties, red lined it in 4, then into 5th and finally into 6th. A mile or so down the road crusing at about 85 it popped out of gear - at first I though it was a missfire or fuel starvation - then it definitely was out of gear.

Put it back in to 6th and there were no further incidents rest of that day or Sunday's ride. Does not make sense to me as there are no neutrals up there?

Anyone have an answer to this?

My Rockster popped out of the second gear down to neutral while under heavy engine braking on a short city block between stop signs twice last year.

Not sure what caused it, it does not occur on regular basis... :smt085

In the 8k miles Ive had my 1150R Ive missed 2-3 1st -2nd shifts and have had it pop out of 2nd once. I think every one of them was pilot error. A little lackadaisical on my part.

Ive had some probs w/shifting which I figure i am to blame.
Biggest prob has been w/new boots. The other prob has been
w/using torque of motor instead of accelerating. The motor
doesnt mind but the tranny sure works better when accelerating.
All in all the more I ride the R the better the shifting becomes.
