What spark plugs for "dual plug" Rockster?

Post by whaycoc »

Many of us have been using the Autolite AP3923 spark plug in our single plug 1150R series bikes - they seem to work fine!

Question: What plugs are being used to substitute the BMW OEM plugs in the dual plug bikes? Also, are the same plugs for the dual plug 1150R and the 1150 Rockster the same plug?

Are the top and bottom plugs the same plug?

Bill...I went to NGK Iridiums about 4000mi ago.
The primary and secondary plugs are not the same....the secondaries are one heat range colder as set up OE. I went with one heat range hotter to clean up the business end.
I'm at work now, but will post the NGK part numbers later if anyone is interested....

Thanks JM, I would be very interested in the part numbers for the top and bottom plugs for my 2004 Rockster.

Are the plugs available at most Auto stores?

Bill,
I've done nothing but strike out in trying to find both types of plugs - primary & secondary - for my '04 at auto parts stores. I recently paid out the wazoo for 2 primaries at my dealer. I should've bought the secondary plugs while I was at it, but didn't, thinking they would be readily available anywhere, but now I find the're not. Best to buy 'em on the web or at your dealer, IMO.

I have a 2004 R1150R with almost 24,000 miles.
Used Autolite 3923 Platinum for the last 12,000 miles.
Could never find the secondary plugs at the auto part stores.

I recently bought the following Iridium plugs from https://www.sparkplugs.com/default.asp

2 BKR97EIX - Part No. 2667 $7.60 each.
2 DCPR8EIX - Part No. 6546 $6.95 each.

I went with what's recommended from the manual.

Hope this helps. :P

Yup...
Advance Auto can special order them for you at their store or online.
You can have them in 2 days from the store...6.96 each.
As BMWKidd says....
Primary> BKR7EIX NGK part number 2667
Secondary> DCPR7EIX NGK pn 6046. One heat range hotter than stock. The OE heat range would be DCPR8EIX.
The OE secondary looked black and oily when I took it out at about 4000mi before installing my Techlusion. I went one heat range hotter to keep the firing end cleaner....and for some reason I feel better about having plugs with the same heat range installed....just me.
The Iridiums looked much better when I took them out again at my 6000mi service....2400 mi ago. Much more brown than black and not oily at all....
If you goto Advance to order them, or online...bring them the NGK part numbers, not the plug number. Works much better..... 8)

thanks to you both! Will go with the secondary being slightly hotter - don't like to see black and oily on a plug!

I have Advanced Auto here - will order from them

Again, thanks much
