I cut my insurance premium by nearly 2/3

Post by morrie »

Clean record, good-rated neighborhood, but Progressive wanted to hike my annual premium by $200 to nearly $1500! I got the same coverage...250/500/100 and 1000 deductable with uninsured motorist coverage for $558 from American Reliable!

It pays to shop around.

Insurance

Post by KHaynes »

I cut my insurance rates by putting restrictions on the bike. The reductions are given if:
* the bike is secure garaged nightly.
* I am the only rider apart from the mechanic and workshop agents.
There are also limitations on the number of kilometres I can travel in a year but this is no problem for me having two bikes.
In doing this, I pay only (AUS)$375 for my 2003 R1150GS.
My RT is a more expensive.

When I was living in NYC my insurance through Progressive was 2600.00/yr. When I moved to New Jersey it became 450.00

I cut my costs nearly in half by switching from Progressive to American National.

Just mailed mine off last week. It was $388 for the year, 250 deductable. This is about the same as it was for me in Louisiana before I moved up here about 2 years ago. State Farm is my insurer. Of course, I have my house and car through them also, which probably brings it down some. Good driver discounts, etc., apply.

It does indeed pay to shop around...and with this innernet thing it's easy. 8)

Progressive was by the far lowest for me. I paid ~ $580 a yr for 25/50 coverage with UM and Comp & Collison at $500 deductibles.
Then in Dec the BMWMOA anounced a tie in with Markel (BikeLine). I checked it out and they saved me $130/yr for the same coverage.
Not sure if you have to belong, but you may want to check it out...

y'all are lucky...

here in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the state regulates insurance.

There are only a handful (3 or 4 really) of insurers, and the rates are regulated so they are all pretty close to the same...

Hmph.

You may want to check this company out.

http://www.foremost.com/

I switched from Progressive to Foremost after the premium increased. I'm paying around $230 with Foremost and they are very nice and easy to deal with also.

2nd vote for Foremost. They handled my accident without a hitch.

I am not sure what mine is but I just changed due to my previous insurance trying to shaft me. With two teenage drivers, the shafting is hard to adminisiter!

I save by having house and multi-vehicle coverage with one, so I shop for the package price, not the cheapest on just the bike.

Insurance

Post by rockstercliff »

My Rockster is insured with American Home, and I was pleased to find out it went down for the coming year. Last year was 368.00. my new bill was 260.00. I also get an Advanced Rider Course dicount, but thought that was quite good.

Scott,
I feel your pain! New York city is worse. I was paying 2600. for full coverage. Now I live in New Jersey, where car insurance is one of the highest in the nation, however, insurance for motorcyles is much cheaper.

Gel

Who do you use in NJ? I use Riders Insurance. There are not many choices in NJ for motorcycles.

I guess I should stop bitching about insurance rates….
I live in one of the highest rated areas in Iowa and still only pay $189.00 a year for full/w $500.00 deduct. And $45.00 a month for liability for 3 cars! (Farmers ins.)
My ’91 vmax used to cost the same +-5.00 to insure as my ’04 r1150r so that’s not too bad!
Better all enjoy what we’ve got now for I fear we’ll all be paying for last year’s weather… soon!
Of all the things I’ve lost… I miss my mind the most!

I'm amazed at what people pay for insurance in NY/NJ. Someone I know in NJ was complaining to me about how he had to fork out 2 grand a year to ensure his 9 year old Ford Taurus. I didn't have the heart to tell him that insuring my 4 yr. old BMW sedan, 12 yr. old Toyota truck, and three motorcycles in Virginia cost less than what he was paying on his single vehicle.

People in NYC and northern NJ are among the wealthiest in the nation, but they have to be in order to just eat!

You're not kidding. In addition to the almost $10K I pay for property taxes, I pay over $2K/year for car insurance. I can't wait until my 16 year old gets his license!

I also pay about $700/year for motorcycle insurance.
