Mid-West Ride - First annual :-)

Post by marousek »

Hey,
since I see the brit gang trying to get organized. Do we have enough Rockster guys and 1150R (1200R) guys in the mid-west area to get a weekend ride when the spring finally graces us with its presence?
Just an idea.....

Marousek, (Moderators)

I think we need to move this to the Group Rides area for better visibility.

Also, I had a friend suggest Richland Center, WI today. I don't know RC myself, but she said there are some privately owned, quaint but clean, motels there and nice riding in the area. Seems central to the small group so far.

Your thoughts?

Group Ride

Post by marousek »

I agree. We can move it there. Would love to see a bigger pack if we get few guys with other 1150 and 1200 Rs. And of course, I would love to see K1200R or two there as well, although then I am not sure if I would not ride to my dealer to make the trade stratight from there....:-) Or.....the dream scenario.....pick up my K-bike in addition to the Rock......Hey.....can't blame me for dreaming.

When the spring gets closer, I will start putting things together. Richland Center area is great for riding. That entire piece of state from Spring Green up to Devil's Lake and up to Richland would make for a one hell of a weekend.

Great marousek, If you need any help, let me know.

I'm right there with you on the dream scanario too, R12, K12, droooooool!

Went to the Chi. Cycle Show Sat., R12 is unbelievably comfortable IMO. But I really like the K12R's agressive look. Ummmm, more droooooool!. OK, $ticker shock back to reality, I'll be keepin' my 1150R for a while!

I am thinking late may to make sure we get decent weather. I am putting together an "itinerary" of the higways we have to hit. The big question I have is if an y of you have a definite no-go on any weekend in the second half of May? I would like to make sure as many people can go as possible.

Also, can I get a show of hands on who may be able to take off Friday and do a three day ride or if we should keep it to Sat/Sun only.

I have a few motel recommendations and once we get numbers and dates locked down, I will get a count reservation so we are set on that as well.

Greetz,

We have plans for Sunday May 27th., so the 18th - 20th work best for us.

Yes to Friday, but we would be leaving early Friday morning, probably arrive early afternoon. But, I'm sure after a short rest, we could be convinced to go for an afternoon ride, find a decent meal, and head back to rest up for Saturday.

Dates

Post by marousek »

OK. So.....

First stab at the dates.....

May 18 - 20 th looks good. By then the blizzard should be over. (Yes, my garage floor is wet, as is yours, from sitting around the bike crying over the 711-Slushy outside.)

Since it looks like everyone is coming from the South of Madison....I propose a meet mid-day on the 18th at the Quaker Steak & Lube in Middleton, WI. A recently built, yet already very popular, bike hangout. We can refresh and take a ride north-west-west from there on the back roads to Spring Green along the river down to Richland Center.

Rest of itinerary is somewhat TBD, but I am thinking down to Prairie Du Chien and north of there, track some of the back roads that Egan took on the Ural last year and set her down somewhere at a motel down there.

(An alternative would be riding straight up and making it to Chequamegon National Forrest and to the lake on Saturday and then heading back Sunday, but I am little concerned that 3 days may not be enough and we may need to add Monday to make it bach in a little more relaxed atmosphere. On the other hand, you will hardly find a more beautiful part of the state/region.)

Suggestions? Issues with the dates?

If you do it the weekend of the 18th of May, it will be the same time as the Bash in WV. Should means lots of ride reports and pictures will be posted the following week!

We're in!

marousek, the ride to Prairie sounds good. That's my Dad's home town, we may have to stop for a Pete's hamburger though hungry or not! They melt in your mouth - no need for condiments.

We could also cross the river there and ride the Iowa side of the Miss. south to the Ferry that crosses to Cassville and then head back north up to Prairie for the night. Just a thought.

BTW, thanks for working on this! Again, if you need any help, let me know.
