Syd to Melb (the long way round) Pt 3

I finally got around to deleting my old pics to make way for these..it's my trip home from Sydney..Sydney is about 1000klms (600miles) north of Melbourne..It can be done in one day straight down the center on the freeway..but I took 3 days coming down the coast road..stopping often to check out the views and take some pics.

The reason for my trip was to visit my Dad..so my pics start here with my Dad and Ruth sitting on my bike just before I loaded up for the trip home.

My first stop was this lookout point about an hour south of Sydney.

Along the coast there is a constant reminder of the war.

There are non stop little beaches..this was near Kiama.

I put my tent up and camped near the beach at Ulladulla..got up before dawn and went down to the beach to watch the sun come up.

I saw big fish jumping out of the water on this inlet..I watched them for a few minutes..got the camera out to take a pic..and they stopped jumping.

This is Batemans Bay...a big fishing area.

Further south is a nice place called Tathera.

This is a favorite place of mine..Merimbula..this is Short Point surf beach.

It was late arfernoon..I was so hot and sweaty..I just had to have a dip in the nice cool water.

Standing in the sun I was dry in minutes.

It was nice to put on a clean and dry shirt..even more special being an RR Beakster shirt..

I stayed in a cheap country pub in Genoa for my last night.

I was up early to ride to Mallacoota and came across this low whispy fog.

The road to Mallacoota is great for bikes.

My last beach stop was Seaspray..and the 90 mile beach..it's the longest beach in the world.

Nothing but beautiful beach..as far as you can see in both directions.

I then hit the road and got home later that arfternoon...I hope you enjoyed my pictures..and come down under one day and do it yourself.

I normally only read the postings on this forum, never post myself. But after looking at your awesome pics I just had to! Congrats - you're such a gifted photographer!

I ride a silver brother of your black beauty (they didn't sell them in black anymore

) It's my first bike, have put on 10,000 km since May 2006. My o my, what a joy!

I remember Mallacoota: we passed there when visiting your beautiful country a few years ago - in a camper though, as I hadn't discovered the joys of biking (or the roadster) yet

Please continue posting such great pics!

I agree. Keep them coming. All of the pictures are good but some are spectacular!

I love the picture of the bike in front of the rocks at Marlo...

I think I should copy it and tell everyone (my freinds and patients) that it is my bike. heh heh
No one would know except that yours is just a touch sexier with that little smoked windscreen and clear lights.

Thank you for entertaining me. It helps lift me from my dreary, sour, disgusted, February mood slump.

I have to ask:
I saw a show on the Discovery Channel from Australia about thumbnail sized invisible jellyfish that can kill a human with one sting.

How do you jump in the water like that????????
I would be too wimpy with those things around!

DJ - you seem to live in paradise. I'm going to have to figure out how I can do business in Australia. I'll have to at least visit and tour the continent. Any suggestions as to what routes to take or resources to consult for such a trip to get a good taste of the Land Downunder?

Your Draggin Jeans are beginning to look like mine. I've worn them now for over three years and even though faded, they are still the most comfy riding pants I have.

This thread reminds me that I have to go visit my Dad. Maybe I'll take the scenic tour too.

Fantastic ride DJ! Makes me want to come to OZ. You should submit your pics to your Tourist Development Board...you'd get better tourists!

I noticed you were using the "Motorcycle Passing Lane" on the road to Mallacoota, but I didn't see that much traffic!

Must be nice to ride open, uncrowded roads along pristine beaches...I'd show you pictures of what it's like riding around here, but it would just depress you!

RougePivoine...first welcome..I like the silver RR almost as much as black..When I got mine there was no silver..it would have been hard to decide if I had the choose between black and silver..Silver has a touch of class about it..It's nice that your first post is to thank me for my pictures and it's great that you made it to Mallacoota when you were here..it's a bit off the beaten track and most people miss it..Did you go to the bakery while you were there?..it's a great bread/cake and pie shop..Here's one more pic of the main camping ground at Mallacoota with all the boats on the inlet...and a couple links to pics of the bakery..I had an iced bun and juice for breakie.

Just-Beeming...those rocks were next to the boat ramp at Cape Conrad..about 15 minutes ride from Marlo..Here's another with just rocks..it seems the light is just right.

sjmbw....I don't know anything about those..they're all just jelly fish to me..if the size of a thumb nail jelly fish can do that..what about these..

yjleesvrr...I'm sure it's all good..but a trip down the east coast would be my choice..as far north as you can..to as far south as you can..it would take at least a week to ride the whole east coast..but that's without much stopping..maybe 6 weeks would make a good trip...just do it..

Boxer...yes I guess WW2...we were under attack from the Japs..they even made it into Sydney harbour in their sneaky mini subs..we also had the odd attack down in Melbourne...A long way from home weren't they...here's another couple of pics of those cannons.

Go visit your Dad...btw..my Dad was in the RAAF and retired as Group Capt...or was it Squadron Leader or Wing Comander..one of those..

I have to admit a car came along while taking that pic...he slowed down..checked if I was ok..I said sorry 'bout that..he said "no-worries mate"..as Aussies do..

Those cannons look like big muzzle loaders. Artillery became breach loaders by the late 19th century. So my guess is that those guns in the photos are more of the mid-19th century variety...
