Bill,

Damage to the valve covers is a common issue with the flat twins (for obvious reason). I wonder why BMW doesn't supply cover protectors as standard equipment.

OK, after reading through all the posts on this topic I believe I win the prize for stupidist lay down EVER. I won't go into detail, let me just say this: never put Armour-All on your bike tires. Fortunately I was only going 20mph through the corner. Ripped my jacket and ground down the plastic head...

Rockster Valve Cover Paint

I need to touch-up some scratches on my valve covers. Does anyone know where I can get a match for the blue gray paint ?

Discoloration on Stainless Steel Headers

Does anyone know how to bring back the stainless finish or maintain it ? my headers are mostly blue now with a little yellow.

This has probably been addressed in the past but I can't find the topic so I apologize if its redundant.

Illuvatar, Riceburner,

Yes, the tapping sounds like an old car I had too. A '66 Buick that had worn valve tappets. It just doesn't sound right.

I'll take it to the shop and have the checked it out. Thanks

You need to be carefull about jumping your motorcycle's battery. The amperage of the car you are jumping from can be too high for the bike and damage the circuitry.

You can buy an accessory port cable for a battery tender and use it to hook the positive cable too.

Sierra BMW sells these.

I found a Battery Tender "Junior" that comes with a connector for the BMW accessory power socket for $39 from Sierra BMW.

Its listed as compatible with gel type batteries.

DSKYZD,

My Rockster does have an accessory port on the left side. I dodn't know you can also plug the trickle charger into it.

I'll check into the connector.

Thanks

New owner found where the @$#%&%$! battery is located !

I admit it was pretty dumb to leave the lights on overnight (thankfully in the garage). That will never happen again. After removing the tank and having the battery recharged I'm running again. I have a few questions I hope some of you can answer:  Is there a terminal post kit I can install s...

Bill,

A couple months ago when I decided to get back into riding (after 25 years) I had my heart set on the Triumph Speed Triple. I saw you pull up on your Rockster one night I thought that was a hell of a bike, it was the first one I saw.

A few days later I found mine on e-Bay.

Thanks NoRRmad, that makes me feel better.

That was also normal with some two stroke motocrossers I had back in the day. I didn't think BMW's would do that too.

Shifting from neutral

I am having some problems shifting from neutral on my (almost) new Rockster. About half the time I get solid engagement into first. The other half it will not shift out of neutral into first or second unless I engange and disengage the clutch once or twice. Then it shifts into first just fine. Has a...

Wow, that is a lot less than the 50,000 miles I get out of a good set of tires on my Chevy truck.

I suppose that bike tires are made from softer rubber due to the traction requirements.

Do you recommend different tires than the Bridgestones that came with the bike when it is time to replace ?

Tire life

How long can I expect the 180/55ZR17 and 120/70ZR17 Bridgestones to last on my Rockster ?

I'm 200lbs, always ride alone and am pretty tame (this is my first streetbike). Most of the miles on commuting
