Kudos!!! I salute you, sir! You have guts, imagination, skill and much more skill than the average rider. Please keep us posted on how this works out.
Man, removing the Motronics alone was enough to get me hooked. I wish you'd do a tutorial on this whole project. (Kinda like Jim von Baden)

Re: Cleaning and polishing the exhaust pipes.
But how long does the bright, shiny, polished effect last? Is it good for a few thousand miles? If not, I don't think it's worth the labor. Not taking anything away from you Rob, those pipes look great. I'm a bit weird (been told) but I kinda like the blued coloration after a quick ride up in the mo...

Re: How many did they make?
Some years ago (at least five, maybe more) a long time member (perhaps cyclerob) listed a number of changes and improvements to the R1150R during the 2004 production year. I don't remember all of them but important topics were improvement in clutch spline alignment, no wire-tie problems to worry abo...

Re: Darn it! - a shotglass worth of anti-freeze into my oil
Don't feel too bad. Late last year I stopped by the local dealer to pick up some things and the whole shop was laughing. The Manager said that a newby owner of an RXXXX (something) put antifreeze in his bike after reading something (on the 'net) about the need to check antifreeze in the radiators. A...

Same here, just a few weeks ago, removing the gas tank to replace the battery. What a stupid way to design a motorcycle!!wncbmw wrote:Fortunately (and pathetically), my disconnects broke in my garage. I did it myself taking the gas nk off for service!.

Re: Original equipment QD removal
Cyclerob, it's so good to hear from you and thanks for the reply. I learned some things and I want to pass them on to others who find themselves in a quandry during battery and QD changes. First, it is not really necessary to completely remove the tank for battery replacement. Once the oil cooler co...

Re: Original equipment QD removal
OK, I finally got one of the quick disconnects off by twisting and pulling. I immediately noticed that the barbs were full of rubber shavings from the inside of the fuel line. I carefully (I sure hope!) made sure there are no shavings left inside the line. Is it normal for the barbs to take some of ...

Original equipment QD removal
I have done searches since 7:30 this morning trying to find a safe, easier way of removing the factory QDs. I cut the clamps off with nippers but the barbs on the fittings are simply too efficient and I cannot get the QDs off. I can now twist them, holding the hose with needle-nose pliers and twisti...

Re: Loud downshifts
I wonder if the Porsche has clutch spline issues? :D[/quote] Nope; but try Googling Porsche main seal failure and you'll get an eyeful of miseries. Both the Boxter and water cooled 911 use many of the same engine components and not only main seals but cylinder/block failures are known trouble areas....

Re: Brocken latch on BMW Panniers
I have just broken the red locking tab myself. It seems to me that as long as the top handle stays in the down position, the bag will remain safely mounted. Here is my temporary solution: I'm going to use a couple of Velcro strips to keep the top handle (bag opening handle) securely down against the...

Re: Odyssey battery.
My 2005 hasthe original battery and shows no weakness. It lives on a charger and I was going to replace it this Spring but having seen so many reports of long-lived originals, I may just wait.

Re: Westco Battery
Thanks a lot. So far, the charger seems to go into float mode in just a few minutes. Winkie-winkie lights (turn signals) are normal and no gremlins have shown up. I'll probably just replace the battery come Spring. Thanks again for the advice. This is the best motorcycle I've ever owned.

Re: Westco Battery
I don't want to hijack this thread but can anyone shed some light on how long the original battery usually lasts? My 2005 Roadster is on the maintenance charger every day and seems as strong as ever. I know that five years is a long time for a battery but the original gel battery in my Miata went fo...

Re: Westco battery
I have a 2005 Roadster with the original battery. I bought it when it was eight month old and after about eight more months I purchased an approved charger for it. Except for when it is ridden by me (alas, not too often, owing to a variety of reasons) it stays on the charger. I was on the verge of r...

Re: First Ride to Work
Xdot, my advice is to just stay away from other motorcyclists. I avoid them at all costs and even turn off to a different route if they persist in getting around me. I've even stopped riding on week-ends to avoid them. In my neck of the woods (Southeast) the vast majority of motorcyclists are on Har...

Re: Bonehead Newb Mistake Leads To Jump Question
Do you have an Owner's Manual? Is the bike a "later Model"? If you have the manual, it will show you the two studs you use to jump or charge the battery. If it's an older model without the external posts, you'll likely need to loosen the gas tank to access the battery. I hope the two answe...

Re: Saddlebag handle won't go down
Fixed at last!!! My apologies to Riceburner, et.al. The red tab was bent, maybe just 1/16" but enough to prevent it from retracting into its slot. I used needle-nosed pliers to very carefully bend the thing back into position. My rationale was "I'm out $80 for parts and labor if I break th...

Re: Saddlebag handle won't go down
Well, shucks. The handles are up and the keyy comes out which, I suppose, is not according to Hoyle. So, does that mean the locking mechanism is broken? If so, then I'll have to get it replaced. Any other ideas? Thanks, all for your suggestions.

Re: Saddlebag handle won't go down
The red tab is NOT bent; it is perfectly parallel to the handle into which it fits. I can remove the key but other than that, the handles will not seat on the "Down" position. I can move the small, "Inside" handle a bit and feel something inside moving but the handles are otherwi...

Re: Saddlebag handle won't go down
No, sir; the tab is straight. I've tried to move the key back and forth and also tried to move tab on the back of the bag but nothing seems to worki. Looks like I'm doomed to another $100 ntrip to the dealer. Thanks for the idea!
