Re: Custom Flyscreen?

Howdy all! Yes, I am still alive... :)

I will take a few shots ASAP, but they will look identical to DJ Downunders I think.

The MRA Vario mounts are identical to the BMW ones, except powdercoated black.

$200 that could save your life...

Take the MSF basic course in your area. Even with prior experience, you will learn alot more than you would think. I have seen "experienced" riders that did not conciously use counter-steering at speed (or even know what it is). When you pass the course, you DO NOT need to take the MO Stat...

Re: OEM Windshield Mounting Hardware Question

Pretty sure that there are no brackets of any kind on a bare bike. I bought my 2005 semi-new (demo bike) and needed to buy brackets even for the GS650 flyshield I mounted.

IMHO - If the windshield needs those brackets for proper support, they should go with it.

Re: Long range touring tire that would work for 2002 RT?

Not such a miracle. My Z6's have 10K miles... but they are getting replaced next week. The groove on my front tire is about as shallow as a politician's character, and the rear is noticeably squared off. No longer consider them "all-weather" tires. Of course I avoid rain on general princip...

Any long allen keys with ball ends usually do the trick. You can also find same as bits for 1/4" rachet drives.

Can be found many places, including Harbor Freight.

Re: Brand new Ztechnik stainless steel exhaust system with muffl

Yep. I am still running the ugly short Supertrapp tip. I think it is a very good sound level (versus CAT-only, with or without tip).

I do need to update the links to the photos I took of my install.

Re: My 'New' Mount!

You may want to download the manual on the SignalMinder. Doesn't hurt to fully grok its operations, modes, and various options. And where the control module resides in the electronics box under the seat. While you are playing with it, make sure you do a full functional checkout as well. I had one go...

Re: New battery install

I just ordered a new PC680 for my bike. My original OEM battery cannot start the bike after only a week off the tender (~3.5 years old).

Was $106 + $13 shipping at http://www.portablepower.com

Best price I found without looking too hard, and from a reputable source.

Re: Problem installing Kisan headlight modulator

FWIW

Been running one of these on all my motorcycles (including R1150R) for 3+ years.

Works well, and it fits inside the headlight housing.

I've had reliability problems with Kissan's stuff.

Re: How about one of these for a sharp, less expensive muffler

** UPDATE ** I saw a mileage drop (~50 -> ~42 mpg) with the original/default 12 disks on the tip. My driving habits and city/highway mix have not changed. Since I had bought a disk pack (6) with original tip purchase, I added 3 disks to stack resulting in +25% increase in exit area at 15 disks.. - M...

Re: Found the perfect exhaust tip!

Any of you guys that have gone with a tip alone found any performance change?????? Even though the catalyst converter provides some backpressure, I think a simple tip does have some effect on the engine's torque curve. I was riding around with a simple stainless tip for about 6-8 months, and everyt...

This link summarizes better than I can. Typical modulator The beam actually appears more like a steady, smooth flicker than a "flash" or "blink". It is modulating at about 4 Hz (cycles/sec). There is an animated GIF on the linked page that gives you some idea what it looks like. ...

Re: Fitting a light switch

I swear by my headlight modulator -- would not use a motorcycle without one anymore.

Even though I try to drive like I am invisible, the extra visibility does seem to decrease the number of dumba$$ maneuvers in my vicinity.

Of course, UK may not allow them.... :(

Re: Brighter rear signal bulbs?

Be careful of using LED-based bulbs for replacements. I tried using one as a replacement for the rear brake light. Our bikes are so smart, they check for the voltage drop across the various lighting circuits to detect burned out bulbs... the LED bulb I used did not pass this test so the motorcycle r...

Try this Kuryakyn Throttle Boss

Like the various rockers but made of soft rubber and does not get in the way. Use the weight of your hand to hold throttle position - no grip, death or otherwise, needed.

Re: How about one of these for a sharp, less expensive muffler

Good question. It really is a non-issue once you are moving, and the low volume at idle doesn't seem too threatening. But... I am not so much worried about heat on the tire as I am about heat on my left leg. When you are stopped you can feel some warmth on your leg, depending on the magnitude and di...

OK, here is the overiew pic. http://home.att.net/~gordium/ST_INSTALL.JPG And here is a closeup pic.... http://home.att.net/~gordium/ST_CLOSEUP.JPG Its about as simple and unobtrusive as an exhaust tip, and needs no support bracket. I used a nicer T-band-clamp versus the hose clamp that came with it....

Re: How about one of these for a sharp, less expensive muffler

Follow-Up Post I got the Supertrapp part (see above post) last Thursday and installed it. Works like a charm. It effectively cuts the sound pressure I was feeling, but not all the growl... its still sounds better than the OEM muffler. I *think* I feel some of that missing torque back... could be jus...

Re: How about one of these for a sharp, less expensive muffler

I plan to use this Supertrapp part to muffle my beast "just a little bit". I am currently using a Headman Header tip and a full-sized system case, but the noise level around town is just above my annoyance threshold (it "OK" at 55+ mph). The obvious benefit is that it still allow...
