Re: Speedometer help
That is correct. If your speedo is fast. If it is slow there would be more miles then those showing. I am good with the speedo being off. Just about every hotrod I have owned and changed the tires on has the speedo off some amount. As long as I know the amount of offset I can deal. Thanks! Dan... So...

Re: Speedometer help
Beginning to look like it is endemic to the bike.
I tested at 20, 40, 60 and 70. It was right about 8 - 10 mph fast. Which is better then slow when it comes to potential speeding tickets LOL.

Speedo help
Hi all, This is cross posted in the Rockster section too. I have 2004 Rockster and every time I rode it, it seemed like the speedo is off. So I get a speedo app for my phone and go for a drive. My speedo is off by 8 miles an hour fast. I have looked over the bike and I can find no indication that it...

I am back on a R1150R. Questions
Hi all, I was on here before when I had a black 2004 R1150R. Sold that off in my quest to become a R1200GS guy. Well, I am back to a 2004 Copper Rockster!!! How do I tell if it has had a an ABSectomy? How does the speedo work on this bike? I am pretty sure my speedo is off. Does anyone have a chart ...

Re: Future parts availability
I wouldn't worry about it for the next 10 years. Ebay always seems to have stuff. Regular maintenance should not be a problem either. For the record I sold my 04 r1150r and got an 07 GS. I just bought an 04 Rockster and plan on selling the GS. I am not too worried about parts. With the possible exce...

Not sure if this applies to BMW final drive, but if you redo gears and bearings in most car rear ends there will be some metal filings as everything seats.

Re: R1200R vs. R1200GS
I can help here! I currently have a 07 r1200gs. It is a great bike and is very capable. It will handle every bit as well as a R1200R but due to the height and size of the front tire (19") it feels very odd. I just test rode and 08 r1200r. 1. R is lighter and feels much lighter then the GS. 2. R...

Re: Booster Plug
While I no longer own a R1150R. I currently own a 07 r1200GS and just did the booster plug. It is a night and day difference. Engine is no longer starved for fuel. Revs quicker and holds rpm better. Surging is gone and on flat ground you can let the clutch out slow and the bike will take off. It is ...

1150GS handlebars.
Hi all, I have genmar risers on my 1150 and I am starting to have some back issues. Has anyone tried switching to the 1150GS handlebars. Beemer boneyard says that they will bolt up and have a 5" rise. It looks like it would put in a perfect riding position. I just don't want to dump $100 a set ...

Re: New to BMW - should i buy a 2004 r1150r
Price is very region dependent. I bought my 2004 r last year for 6500. ABS, system cases, high seat, and 13k miles with brand new tires. It seemed like a good deal. Truth is there does not seem to be a ton of these bikes out there. So if it grabs you, I would grab it.

Re: Need Purchase Advice Please
Just as a price point of reference. I bought my 2004 R about 1.5 years ago. Black, abs, brand new Z6 tire, with system cases and tall seat, 13500 on the clock. Paid 6300. Around Tucson and AZ these bikes seem to hang in the 6k range. One sold in Tucson about a month ago for 6900 with 29k on it. It i...

Re: Aftermarket Exhaust--Yes or No?
I think the heat thing is more of a general good idea. If you are running synthetic in your tranny it won't be an issue. Synthetic handles heat very well. Heat for dino products causes them to break down quick and lose lubricity. Your location has a lot to do with it. In Arizona, where I am, it can ...

Re: seat height
I have a 34" inseam and my bike had a factory short seat. It was way short. I swapped it with the high version which is much better for me. Try getting your hands on a factory low or see if someone has one you can borrow in your town.

Re: Aftermarket Exhaust--Yes or No?
I will offer the following and I have done it to my bike. Drop the muffler like all have suggested then gut the cat. You need someone who can weld once you gut the cat but it is worth it. Just the heat savings of the cat roasting you tranny is worth the effort. I also saw about 1.5 mpg increase on t...

Re: The when of switching to synthetic engine oil
Sorry if I was not clear enough. 10 minutes of test run time is not enough to get the rings to seat. In normal driving it is between 500 and 5000 miles. (Almost never 5000 miles.) Yes Vette's still come with mobile 1 but they now seat or burn in the engine before sending them out the doors. Molly ri...

Re: The when of switching to synthetic engine oil
From an engine building perspective. Synthetic is to slick for engine burn in. The rings on the piston have to seat and (for lack of a better term) wear into the bore. Synthetic does not allow this to happen. Most of the early oil use you see is from oil getting by the piston rings and blowby in the...
