Re: I just retired...

I know the corner you had your epiphany on very well. Just went around it a few hours ago. Having lived in the Ojai Valley for 30 years, and still a frequent visitor, I traveled 150 and 33 literally hundreds of times. Still among my 5 favorite roads. I agree with your statement about cancer giving y...

Re: Changed the stick coils

Actually got to ride it today and it was marvelous. Smooth power, good torque in the middle, no sputtering, no coughing, no bucking, no farting; just like a BMW should be.

Changed the stick coils

Ever since I bought this bike, it's never run smoothly. The day I bought it, the bitch unceremoniously spit me off onto the previous owners driveway. Thought it was just the nature of the beast. The final straw was when a non-riding co worker told me I looked stupid on the bike. It was having a part...

My tarot deck shows the same future. Gotta love the technology that allows us to carry on and keep riding.

Re: Riding with earbuds and music

If the Etys fit, the S Canals will be better. Very small, fit pretty far in the ear. Hands down better than anything else I've used.

Re: Riding with earbuds and music

I frequently use earplugs with my Sena system. The speaker system didn't work, probably 'cause my hearing sucks after years of jet noise and 5" guns. I thought I was set with Etymotics ER6i's, but I found true Nirvana with S PLUG CANAL EARBUDS. They fit better, don't hurt my ears after a few ho...

Re: Motor struggles at 5-7k rpm

I'm planning on a semi complete service as time permits. Valve adjust, oil and filter change, replace a/c and plugs and plug wires, externalize fuel filter and new plug wires. Fuel filter will probably be an aluminum bodied stainless 10-20 micron element inline filter, only 'cause it looks cleaner a...

Re: Motor struggles at 5-7k rpm

I agree it could be the fuel filter. Got some of the PO's maintenance records, and see a fuel filter change at about 9k miles. Bike is now 38k. Same with A/C. So, I guess that those 2 should be the starting point. Plugs were changed within the last 10k ($28 a piece! Really?) Is there an aftermarket ...

Motor struggles at 5-7k rpm

Jumped back into the R bike fold with a 38000 mile R. When briskly accelerating, the motor seems to surge or gasp from around 5k to redline. Sorta feels like it's starving for ...something. Not a clean rush to redline. Also low RPMs seem lumpier. First ride I stalled the bike in the sellers driveway...

Re: Bee stings & Benadryl

Just a question. We in the northwest have been experiencing an unusually prolific yellow jacket year, during which I have been stung multiple times. I am horribly allergic to honey bee stings, but with the yellow jackets, I only exhibit the "normal" local reactions like localized redness a...

Re: Mileage Check-in - please list your current R1200R miles

2200 and change, but in my defense North Idaho doesn't lend itself to opportunities to ride. (nor does chemo). But if you add up all the time split between the Beemer, the Vstrom and the Ducati things are a bit rosier. Frankly, I'm trying to decide my favorite; roads in SoCal or the roads here in ne...

Re: small soft tail bag for an R1200R

Maybe not a soft bag, but a nice addition for small stuff non the less.http://axioluggage.com/tailbag_silver.html And, it looks good on the tail of the R, besides adding a little security for SWMBO.

Re: on 33 today?

Highest spot on 33 is the summit at Pine mountain, just before heading back down on the dry side of the hill. All dirt, but usually in pretty fair shape. BTW, I was the guy on the red Duc you passed driving the other way. My R12R stays in Idaho.

Re: Flat tire

So, Saturday I paid for the privilege of allowing Cycle Gear to scratch my rear rim mounting a new Michelin Pilot 2 that replaced my worn and flat Bridgestone BT018. Live and learn. So today, I was able to replace the not so worn but still square front. Again my disgust at the OEM joke for a toolkit...

Flat tire

After visiting the Alpaca ranch last night, I discovered the rear tire (Bridgestone OEM) was screwed, literally. Big ole' drywall screw just off the square center of my 3000 or so mile tire. The owner of the ranch graciously offered the use use of his barn and tools and also took me to a tire shop s...

Re: Reliability

I've followed this and similar threads regarding the reliability of these bikes in comparison to others. 1. $$$ does not equate to reliability 2. If you really want to whine about things that go bump in the night, try a Ducati! 3. BMW cars are more prone to idiotic behavior than the motorcycles, and...

"Sometimes" auto cigar lighter plugs are center positive. I bought the Eastern Beaver setup, fuseblock, SAE adapter and cigar/SAE adapter. Connected it all by color code, and blew 2 fuses before the light came on over my head to check polarity. Sure enoughn the center conductor on the ciga...
