+1 on NOT putting a windshield on yours. I've had mine since 2009 and have zero problems, even on the highway.

Re: How out of line is this?
Well, I was WAY off in my earlier number ... and for a change, in my benefit. I remember seeing mid-$400's quoted as my 600-mile service when I was being sold a service plan (which I declined). Thankfully, the actual cost was significantly less. My 600-mile service included parts totalling $112 and ...

Re: How out of line is this?
So where can we find independent BMW motorcycle mechanics? Its easy to find BMW mechanics for cars, but I haven't had any luck with bikes. I'm going in for my 600-mile service tomorrow and believe the charge is in the neighborhood of $450!

Re: R1200R Being Discontinued
Count me as one that wouldn't have considered BMW seriously again if they didn't have the R1200R. Possibly I'd have taken a pass at a GS, but it doesn't really fit what I'm after. The RT isn't at all what I want, so it doesn't compare to the R, IMHO. I'd have likely purchased a Guzzi, though I'd hav...

Re: Moto Guzzi!
If you do a search on here, you'll see a thread I started about my tough decision between a Griso & my new R1200R. It was a really tough call for me at the time, not the least of which was because 1 or 2 year old Grisos could be had for a song. We're talking $6500-$7500 for 2007s with low miles....

Re: Ergonomics and the BMW R1200R
I am one of the fortunate ones that have only ever owned BMW motorcycles (having just recently purchased my 2nd in my 10 years of riding). Because of this, I am uniquely qualified to answer the question of intuitivity (intuitiveness?) of the signals. Well, not having to unlearn anything helped, but ...

Re: Thanks for the feed back
As one of those who gave a suggestion for getting into gear while stopped, I must say that this has happened to me probably twice among hundreds of stops so far. Overall the transmission on this bike is worlds better than on my previous bike ('99 R1100R) and is a significant improvement over the Guz...

Re: Thanks for the feed back
If you are referring to the switch gear, I find it VERY intuitive. Press with the left thumb when going left, press with the right thumb when going right. Easy enough. As for first gear, the only time you can't shift into first might be when you are stopped. If that's the case, roll the bike forward...

Re: In with the new/Out with the old ...
This certainly seems a farkle-friendly forum. In fact, I was introduced to the term here. My previous ride was fairly farkle-free, but I've already spent more bike-related cash on new helmet(s), riding boots, gloves, etc. Who knew helmets had a lifespan, even if their life was an uneventfu...

Re: In with the new/Out with the old ...
In comparing the two, I was wondering if you plan on installing the rubber baby bumpers on the new cylinder heads as you have on the old ones. No. They were installed on my '99 when I purchased her. I never dropped her and she was a bit more portly than my current mount, so I'm not seeing the need....

Any thoughts on Icon jackets for women? There are some good looking jackets made for women, but I haven't seen any in person.
Yes, I know this thread is old ... but I haven't ever ventured in here before. Any traction on a "Gear" section of the forum?

Re: In with the new/Out with the old ...
Agreed on the clocks as well as the grips. Not sure why they went with black plastic backing for clocks and mirrors (although its easier to keep clean). The new grips feel significantly thinner than the old, as well. Two areas the old one has it on the new one ... but overall the new one feels (and ...

Re: In with the new/Out with the old ...
Thanks guys. I took several more, but both bikes take a back seat to the true master of the house. I just haven't figured out a good way to bring her along for the ride that doesn't involve bolting on a sidecar and buying doggie goggles. Here you can see the Bavarian siblings giving the stinkeye to ...

In with the new/Out with the old ...
Three weeks late, but finally some pics of my new & old R's. I've had the '99 Dolphin Blue R1100R for 10 years & passed the enjoyment of her to a guy in northern NJ via eBay. The new '09 was born as a grey one, but my dealer brought in a Biarritz Blue 2010 so they could swap out the tank, fe...

BTW - in case you didn't know ... when you don't have ESA, you pop the seat off and adjust the preload by twisting a knob.

Re: electronic suspension adjustment
I DON'T have ESA and I can say its a bit of a pain to get under the seat every time my girlfriend wants to jump on the back. The seat just doesn't go back on very easily. Its not that big of a deal, but its a small PITA. Having said that - I've ridden with her on the back and at ~100lbs, I can't say...

Looks like I might need to add $144 to the Remus quote to get BMW connector tube with mounting hardware. Sneaky.
