Mystery Oil Burning Smell

I changed the oil on my '95 1100R a couple weekends ago and I have been smelling burning oil every ride since. I have crawled around the bike and inspected every single place that oil could possibly come into contact with hot exhaust or engine parts and I am baffled. I keep my engine pretty darn cle...

R1100GS Footpeg Plates on an 1100R?

I've been studying the R1100GS foot peg plates and it looks like it would be possible to swap these pates and the associated shifter and brake hardware onto an 1100R. Has anybody tried this? I love my 1100R, but the seating position of the GS is way more comfortable. It looks like you can get a set ...

Re: First Impressions Owning and Wrenching the R1100R (long)

I too have just joined the BMW ranks and I couldn't agree with you more, the R1100R is completely under-rated! I picked my '95 up for $3400 and it was in need of some mechanical TLC, but cosmetically, it is in beautiful shape. I am actually surprised at how many times I catch that "rich bastard...

Re: Tuning out vibrations?

Thanks Wardie. I looked over a couple TB sync write-ups and constructed a water manometer last night. I balanced the TBs at idle and 2500 RPMs and this really helped the cold starts and low-end RPM range. I think I'm going to have to give it another session and work on the whole RPM range...I'm stil...

Tuning out vibrations?

I just picked up my first BMW motorcycle this weekend and I am completely smitten with it. The bike is a '95 R1100R with almost no defects to speak of. On my 1-hour ride home, I noticed that the bike surges (big surprise, right? ;) ) and the idle is a little lumpy and erratic. Additionally, I get a ...

Re: Hello!

Thanks for the help Oliver. I stumbled across Wudo and gave their site a shot for about 15 minutes. It's interesting how you can recognize little bits of English in German, but not quite enough to navigate exactly where you want to go. Call me a glutton for punishment, but I enjoy the challenge of k...

Hello!

Good morning! I have been lurking on this board for a couple weeks and I have found a lot of good input here, so I decided it was time to step out of anonymity and introduce myself. My name is Blake and I live in San Diego. I have been riding for two years and I am getting ready to buy my first BMW....
