Re: Major Failure Poll

Was this a BMW shop mechanic saying this? Or a general mechanic saying that in general motorcycles fail at higher mileages? The conventional wisdom on this board, and this is a topic that appears and reappears with some regularity is that, at least for the clutch splines, failures are about 3% or l...

Re: Major Failure Poll

Others can help more than I, but from what I've read here and what my mechanic told me when I put the same question to him, the failures generally occur at higher mileage, somewhere in the 80K range. No doubt there will be more well informed posts, but I just wanted to put your mind at ease a little...

Exide Battery charger

I've seen some conflicting information so I thought I would come to the best source for a final (I hope) answer. I have a BMW Exide battery and was in the market for a charger. Ordered one recommended by a fellow BMW rider. While talking with the mechanic at my dealership, he informed me that most &...

Re: Last ride for 2010

You have my sympathy. Here in Memphis, the longest I can expect to go without a ride during the winter months is two weeks. There are always a few days every month that push at least into the 50's. With full leathers I consider anything above 40 to be ride-able, at least for an hour. As for snow, ve...

Re: tattoos

I'm also fairly heavily tattooed, arms only, gathered over 35 years and I don't regret a single one. That said, take your time and choose carefully. It's likely going to be with you a long time. Two suggestions: 1) put it somewhere it can be easily covered. It goes without saying, a visible tattoo a...

Re: Honda Fit/Nissan Versa?

We've owned a Honda Fit for over four years. I have friends that own a Versa. First, the fit (no pun intended) and finish on the Fit is remarkable. Quality through and through, much better than the Versa. We have had zero problems. Regular maintenance has been the only expense and at our dealership,...

Re: Have you "bonded" with your ride?

Maybe because I had dreamed of owning her so so long, bonding took place in the first 100 miles. Out on the road or just sitting on my porch staring at her parked in the driveway, I am as certain as I am of my wife, she and I are one, till death do us part. Okay, maybe that's a bit drastic but you g...

Re: Some assurance please

Um, because giraffe dads can't give babies milk? Also just a small streak of trouble maker having fun. It confuses people on the gender thing.

Re: Some assurance please

NoRRmad, For the life of me I can't replicate what you did. I've added tags to the baby giraffe pic and I've gone to "view all sizes" and picked a size (Medium). Here I get lost. I can't figure out how to move that size choice back to the "share this" page. I'll keep working on i...

Okay, we'll give it a try. It didn't show up as a picture in the preview so we'll try a post and see what happens. This should be a picture of my bike.

I had updated my profile to reflect my location, occupation and interests. I hit submit and it seems to disappear. I will continue to work on it along with getting a picture of my bike up as my avatar. Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: Some assurance please

Iowabeakster, Many thanks. You have eased my mind considerably. The zipties are cut and the quick disconnects will be replaced very soon. And many thanks to all the contributors to this forum. I have learned more about my bike in the last few weeks than I ever knew about my previous bikes. Tis time ...

Some assurance please

First some background. I'm a 64 year old male who has ridden for 50 years, first on beat up Cushmans and, for most of my adult life, on Japanese inline fours. I have always lusted after BMW boxers but could never afford one of the beauties. Two months ago an opportunity presented itself that I simpl...

Re: Too Much

Half way through a long morning ride, I stopped at a McDonalds in a small Arkansas town for some coffee and a leg stretch. A car pulled in next to me and a large, 50ish lady got out, stared at my r1150r and said simply, "Awesome bike". I smiled all the way home.
