Re: Sixth gear
Disagree with you on the sixth gear. Find it relaxing with that overdrive gear. Downchanging is necessary on all but steeper stretches. Maybe its me but a find a 6 hour day stint trying to cover big mileage tiring. Bike is definitely not suited to long motorway blasts. Due to family and work commitm...

Re: Sixth gear
Thanks riceburner - just confirming what I suspected! My other flat twin was used as commuter/tourer and as such was daily transport. Clutch started slipping at around 30K (got it with 7k) and sold it on. Always felt that the bike thrived on regular use. The rockster is purely for touring and leisur...

Sixth gear
Having just returned from a week long trip to the french alps need advice on an issue that cropped up whilst abroad. Bike performed faultlessly throughout - no complaints. Was touring with a mate on a honda blackbird so obviously he was not found wanting in the speed department. I find that the rock...

Re: I ordered a Boosterplug
I mounted the sensor on the telelever strut. I can recall the instructions mentioning to ensure it is kept in the airflow but as far away from the engine as possible. I too was kind of skeptical prior to purchase but for the amount of money involved (think it was around eur140) thought it was good v...

Re: I ordered a Boosterplug
Purchased one of these for my '04 1150 Rockster a few months ago. 10 mins installation, easy peasy. So far so good and money well spent in my opinion. It wont transform your bike and i would reckon a dyno test wouldnt show any great gains in power. However bike instantly feels torquier and definitel...

Re: Booster plug
Thanks for that GRW. Dont think it would be possible to fit a switch as you have to physically run this device between motronic unit and the airbox - disconnecting the original wire. Trying to figure out some sort of switch could be well beyond my limited mechanical ability. However with temps as lo...

Booster plug
Hi all, have recently fitted a Booster plug to my '04 rockster. Have found it greatly improves driveability with a bit of extra go all through the rev range. For those of you unfamiliar with this gizmo, its basically a piece of cable with a built in resistor that runs from the motronic unit to the a...

Re: Gear change issues
GRW you are preaching to the converted! I am sure that the actual occurence of the dreaded clutch spline failure is actually less prevalent than the man in the pub/internet forums would have you believe. However this one of the main reasons my biking buddies steer well clear of the brand. After taki...

Re: Gear change issues
When discussing bmw flat twins 3 words send a shiver down my spine - clutch, splines and failure. With such low mileage I am hoping this would be not an issue. I do think its down to sticking of the gear selector....I hope!

Re: Gear change issues
Thanks grw, you have hit the nail on the head. As you say first gear goes in fine and usually the next one will not click home after that and it only affects down changes. Funnily enough this problem only came to light after I started "loading" the gear change lever just prior to shifting ...

Gear change issues
Hi, wondering has anyone else had similar problems. Have found my gear selector has been acting up as of late (2004 rockster with 5700 miles). It has become increasingly difficult to change down gears, specifically from forth to third and from third to second. If I am driving along in forth and come...

Re: Mirrors
Hey, thanks for that, they look really well. The stem appears to be long enough to see past your elbows also (unlike mine). Think I will invest in a pair of these. At GBP 39.00 also a hell of a lot cheaper than the equivalent wunderlich/rizoma items...

Re: Mirrors
Went down a different road here. Purchased a pair of 10 to 8mm adapters but found these would not fit into the handlebar mounts.Got myself a long circular file and spent a couple of hours widening the mounting holes in the handlebars to accomodate the new adapters. Tightened the whole deal up with s...

Re: Performance upgrades
Thanks for that Oliver. As you say its the only way to get a real performance increase. With the chip alone I have found it just changes throttle response only with no real horse power improvement. Problem is, the cost of these conversions will definitely break the bank and would be divorced if her ...

Oil Filler
Hi, due to frequent oil top ups on my 04 Rockster (4500 miles) I have worn out the adhesive on the little rubber washer/gasket that you will see in the cylinder head when you take of the cap. When I go to remove the cap this gizmo comes out with it, and is a pain to get back in again. First thought ...

Mirrors
Hi all. For no good reason I decided to change the mirrors on my rockster. Purchased a swanky looking pair off ebay for what I thought was a fairly reasonable price. Advertisement claimed they would fit my bike but on trying to fit them found the stem diameter to be 10 mm and not 8mm as per oem item...

Performance upgrades
Hi all. Am considering forking out a couple of hundred euros an an aftermarket eprom chip. Having had one in my old 1150gs a couple of years back I would say it was a worthwhile investment. Was not expecting fireblade type performance but found that it made the bike more driveable with better thrott...

Re: Fork seals/ tyres
Hey, thanks for that. Thats an excellent link. Used to frequent this site a couple of years back when I had a GS. I think someone of my limited mechanical ability could attempt something llke that. Especially as my local garage were charging eur120 for doing it.....
