how to test the ignition switch

Hi, What is the best way to test the ignition switch and the light harness? '03 r1150r: when I turn on the ignition the lights do not come on, nor will they work - turn signals, flashers, no headlight, no tail light. The bike will crank and run, no problem. The brake lights work. It began intermitte...

Re: IICE AIR

Hi Roger, those are great. Thanks. I'll probably start a new thread for this bike. It is great hearing the feedback and info on the questions I have and especially after I really learn how this thing is put together. I did get it pretty cheap, and the manual will be here tomorrow. I really appreciat...

Re: IICE AIR

Hi Guys, I think I need to share more info on the bike, as I bought it used, and recently. I have a guy who has a dealer license and he purchases bikes on auction - they are either repo or trade-ins. he doesn't get much info, but he's been riding since he was a kid and raced for a while, so he knows...

Re: IICE AIR

a question, looking at installs on youtube, they are plugging into O2 sensors with the XiED. I don't believe I have O2 on my bike - I don't see any plugs in my exhaust and know that I have a Y-pipe instead of a catalytic. Does the XiED work without the O2 sensor? I can definitely contact the supplie...

Re: IICE AIR

That sounds great, and easier/more simple, to manage, compared to an IICE AIR or a Dobeck EFI?

Reading the sight it is plug and play, anything to watch out for or know besides that?

Thanks, again,

Gaston

IICE AIR

Hi, I am a returning member - now a lifer, too, which is cool. I have had a number of bikes over the past 30 years from a lot of manufacturers; Yamaha, Honda(2), Victory, Suzuki, and now on my 2nd BMW R1150R. I'd like to make some improvements to it, and am asking for input and advice from the crowd...

the one tidbit I've learned;

make sure you get the filter on tight - don't over tighten. But you want to make sure it's all the way screwed on or it will drip a little. Easy to check after the first ride and tighten if it needs it.

Hi SitR, good advice. After getting home and cleaning off the tire, the bend is not easily spotted. To find it again I had to run my hand along the wheel. I first noticed it from the pavement on the wheel maybe from the edge of the pot hole. It is only on one side of the front rim, a good sign, and ...

there are a couple of other things I'm considering; the damage is not critical, meaning that the tire hasn't lost any pressure and the bead is not exposed from the damage. There is no fracture in the metal. I have fixed a rim before, but not on this bike and not in several years. If I tap the rim an...

Front Rim

I hit a very large pothole on a fine California highway this morning in the dark. it has bent one side of the edge of my rim. Can I fix this myself? What is the best way to go about it? Does the tire have to be taken off to get the edge straightened?

last week I had to have wires replaced on my '04 that I bought in September of last year. The heated hand grip cables and the STARTER cable which being damaged was causing my bike to shut off when taking slow sharp turns with the bars turned hard.

Invaluable advice.

Pre-Paid Annual Service

Hi,

I bought my bike at the Mountain View BMW shop and one of the perks they offer is the opportunity to have prepaid annual service. What are your thoughts on this?

I can share more details if questions come up.

Problem Solved - maybe check you 2004 wiring!!

With the help from you guys and the clues you gave me I figured out what was wrong with my bike. The wiring, not only to the heater grips but to the ignition switch were worn/breaking! Dangerous riding. When you mentioned that the wiring to the heated grips can go bad it clued me in as I was moving ...
