Re: Windshields for 2015 R1200R

I like my Nav V. Not the greatest GPS in the world, but I like the integration with the GS (haven't tried it on the R).

Re: 2015 R1200R Owners Thread

As an old MSF instructor, I was taught and practice a technique known as "stop turning and start stopping." You mean "stop turning and get stopped by oncoming traffic"? There is no single correct way of doing this, it depends on the situation. I also learned about "the bike...

On the R I agree, the differences are small. I would not have bought the GS without Telelever. Especially not after testing the Multistrada and KTM 1190 Adventure.

Re: New R1200R!

Quick comment on this one: http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t164/Freaks-Photos/BMW%20R12R%20VS%20RS%20bar%20drop_zpsyvh0mkbm.jpg This photo is not correct. The tanks should be the same height as they are the same. Therefore the handlebars are too high in comparison on the R model side. If you acco...

Re: New R1200R!

For me it came down to a checklist between what I liked and disliked on the new vs. the old. The main areas where I have a clear favorite between the two are: Engine/exhaust sound Suspension comfort Luggage Quality Looks Gizmos Engine in general (smoothness, power, ...) The old R1200R for me is ahea...

Re: Telelever loss

In short, the loss of Telelever on the new bike is a non-issue as far as I am concerned. YRMV. Not a good test in my opinion. You need to test where it really matters, when your braking distance gets worse because of the different concepts: on a bumpy and curvy road under hard braking. Testing unde...

Re: How do you cope without centerstand?

I'm just curious. That's all. I prefer to put my bikes on the centerstand in the garage and when I park somewhere where I want to use as little space as possible. Other than that, it really only annoys me when I either have a flat or the bike has a chain.

How do you cope without centerstand?

Hi All, I'm thinking (very vaguely, will likely not happen) of adding an R nineT to the the stable and thought about the fact that the lack of the centerstand might drive me nuts. It's not as bad as on bikes with a chain, but still ... In my experience with the boxers, if you leave it sitting on the...

Re: OEM Touring Windscreen

Whatever answer you get it may be correct for the person answering, but it will very likely not helpful for you. There are too many factors at play here: 1) Your height and body shape 2) Your riding position 3) Whether you have a pre 2011 or 2011+ (the windshield is raked back much more on the newer...

Re: Maintenance Reminder- Torx vs Allen

A torx head can survive a higher torque than allen/hex, plus they are much less likely to strip as long as you a) use the correct sized tool, b) have high quality tools in good condition, and c) don't angle it wrong while applying force. A torx can also be used with more torque on low profile heads ...

If you get the Touratechs could you post results and maybe even photos here? Wife might be interested in a little less reach to the bars for long trips.

Re: WARNING rear brake disk mounting flange failure!

Yeah, you really never know if you leave a bike/car/... out of your hands in a shop. Even good shops often have some bad practices. And it also might not be wrong that at all. It just reminded me of the time when we saw things like that in a shop I used to work for right after school.

Re: WARNING rear brake disk mounting flange failure!

This looks a lot like failures introduced due to too much torque applied and then the normal strain on the components is too much. Mainly because of the use of air wrenches which are set up for way too much torque, but are used in shops because of speed of assembly. Of course, I don't know whether t...

I wonder what the wethead GS weak points will be in regards to reliability? Right now it seems to be switch gear. Horn, signals, starter, heated grips, ... seem to not like rain or washing ... No, I don't have one. I'd like to get a R1200R, current version for the looks. If the waterboxer one looks...
