High mileage R1200R
I have a R1200R (2007) with 140,000 miles on it. Still running great with no problems (except the fuel gauge). It hasn't been my prime bike for a few years, enjoying it's retirement with weekend rides when the weather is nice. I'm sure there must be some out there with higher mileage, how about post...

Re: Fuel Strip
Just one guy that 'heard' it's more or less the same design with a tube (for protection) around the sensing strip. I'm out of the 12 year deal (2007) and it's a lot of money to get it replaced, but it's annoying having something on the bike that don't work. BTW: riding for over 60 years so don't nee...

Re: Fuel Strip
On Facebook, someone posted that there is a new part number for the fuel strip, the 'new' part is supposed to be better than the old one.
BUT - I can't find anything about it. Anyone have someone in BMW that could get an answer.

Re: What’s on everyone’s agenda for 2022?
The last two years have been pretty rotten with the restrictions and all.. Hopefully we'll have an all clear by spring and we can do some riding.
Last year I barely broke 10,000 miles, lowest mileage in decades.

Re: Retiring my R1200R
Revisiting your topic: Rhode Island is in your neighborhood! I can only surmise that you're wanted in Providence for some intriguing white collar crime and thus avoided the ignoble inconvenience of unplanned incarceration - always a bummer for keeping Moto trip schedule. Nonetheless, best wishes in...

Sorry to see you hanging it up DB, but as hard as it is to admit, some things are way more important than motorcycle riding. Two being, love and loyalty, good luck and my prayers for your wife and you.

Retiring my R1200R
My 2007 R1200R has been retired. With 150,000 it's been in all the States (except Rhode Island), all the Maritime and border Provinces and coast to coast four times (I live just North of Atlantic City). I had planned on selling it, but even though it's running perfectly (except the fuel gauge) with ...

Re: anyone here anymore?
Au contraire - Original owner 2007 R1200R, 145,000 miles been everywhere. Boondock camping where a few guys on GS bikes turned back. Replaced crown bearing in rear drive at 40,000, drive shaft at 60,000. Bike still looks and runs good and could do a Coast to Coast run tomorrow. Never left me strande...

Re: Updating on the alt belt replacement
Finally got around to installing the alternator belt that was in the garage. 80,000+ on the old belt, it wasn't frayed, no cracks and wasn't making any noise, likely would have went another 80,000. The 34mm socket and nifty little gates belt tool were a waste of money. Went back to a large adjustabl...

There are a number of places that can fix a dent rim. Check locally and see if one is near you.

Re: Fuel Strip
Most of my memories nowadays are vague :). I'm surprised no one has come up with an aftermarket fix for the fuel strip. I'm out of the 12 year deal and if I want to have the fuel gauge work it's going to cost $300/400 to have the dealer install a known defective part. Please don't anyone suggest usi...

I understand (rumor about a rumor) that a conversion kit is available for the fuel gauge. Anyone have any information on this ???

Re: Noise from Michelin Road 5
I think the Pilot Road 4's are all GT tires (for the heaver bikes). There might be some regular ones left out there but they would be older tires and i don't need them on my bike. I made the mistake of getting a GT tire once, it was a bear to get on the rim as the side walls are a lot stiffer than t...

Re: Noise from Michelin Road 5
Ok I'm kind of done with the Michleins, funny wear pattern even though everything is the same as when I ran PR-III and PR-IV. In the spring I'll need new tires, thinking of Dunlop Roadsmart III. Comments, thoughts or hopefully a review from someone that ran Dunlops.

Re: thoughts on 2011 Classic with $38K miles
If you have a letter from BMW saying they will cover the fuel gauge for the 'life' of the bike I really would like a copy of it. I just went over the 12 year limit on my 07 and the strip went. The dealer tells me it will cost $400+ to replace (even though the one in the bike is less than two years o...
