Re: Steering damper droop. Easy fix.

I need to replace the damper on my '07. Is it as simple as it looks, attach it via the nut to the steering head and the screw in the cylindrical part? I will also replace the rubbery ring. It is as long as you reuse the front ball-mount. The ball on the front ball mount is on a bolt that goes throu...

Re: Windshield Turbulence

There somewhere here is a LONG thread on windshields. I'll summarize it as best I can: 1. CalSci with the holes are no better than the Cee Bailey - perhaps worse. I was the test subject on them - and I eventually threw it out. It simply didn't work. 2. There are two versions of the Cee-Bailey. If yo...

Re: Rear shock esa

It probably is unique - since the other models weigh more. The spring at least is probably different (shock may be the same.) EPM in Manalapan NJ is capable of rebuilding the ESA shocks.. http://epmperf.com/motorcycle-shock-rebuild-service/

Re: Lighting Upgrade Question

I've had headlight modulators for 20+ years now.. and no problem with following other bikes - I never do. I seem to always be the lead bike. I have the Skeen on the back, plus some German LED replacements for the turn signals that include a row of red LED's in the center that are also hooked to the ...

Re: Misfire/rough running

Miraculously the issue hasn't raised it's ugly head since I posted the original query, so I haven't had chance to try any of the tests. Was going to say I was looking forward to sorting out this issue but to be honest, of it's gone away I'm happy. LOL Since it might have sat for quite a while witho...

These were on my '07 R1200R - I haven't done the ones on my '12 R12R yet. Is the sleeve plastic or perhaps black anodized aluminum?

Re: Misfire/rough running

When it does this - start it, let it run chugging for a minute or two, shut it down. VERY carefully check the exhaust pipe temperature (I'd suggest an IR laser-thermometer) - see if one cylinder isn't running. If it is one that isn't running - try swapping the primary coils from side to side. See if...

Re: Front Brake Reservoir Gunk

My '12 has an open-foam anti-froth thing in the brake reservoir. Came on the bike. So far it hasn't dissolved.. wonder if that's the remains of one, but also wonder what caused it to melt down like that. FWIW - I broke the original master cylinder (tip-over into a vice whilst doing a front tire swap...

Re: Back in the fold

Congrats - it looks great except for the tail trunk. No company has managed to make a good looking tail trunk that can take a full-face helmet. But the damn things ARE so useful.. I've resisted buying a hard one, I'm still using the BMW soft-tail-trunk, it's crossed the country 4 times, been to Cana...

Re: OBD2 v 911

It appears the adaptor cable is available from various sources for around 29Euro.. and the dongle just has to be ELM compatible. I have an ELM compatible one arriving today ($10/Amazon-Prime deal) - but don't have the cable. Software is downloadable, but free version is likely limited... it appears ...

Re: R1200R value?

Ferde,, You'd have to fly out and ride back - but there is one for sale in NJ, 2011 Red, 11,000 miles - $6,000 with bags. Looks nice. I could go look at it for you. The woman selling it has one person coming Sunday to look at it - if it doesn't sell to them - she'll contact me. I could pick you up a...

So I suspect you're out riding it somewhere.. hows it doing? The red ones seem to be the best, and that's exactly what mine was like when I got it - as 3rd owner, it had about 2,000 miles on it.

Re: R1200R value?

$4,000-$7,000. FWIW - I sold my '07 with 97,000 miles on it, pristine, for $5,000 when I bought my '12 with about 1,000 miles on it for $10,000 - that was 3 years ago. The one you're looking at has low miles, which is good provided it was used continuously, and serviced correctly (brake fluid every ...

Re: Head Lamp cracked-Alternatives?

Gary - your dealer is feigning ignorance. The '07 had a defect in the headlight lens that would cause it to crack, usually with a single long vertical crack. Most dealers at the time covered it under warranty. My '07 did that on it's inaugural long trip before the flaw was known, so I got stuck payi...

Re: Old Fourm members

Here since 2007 - sold the '07 R1200R with 94,000 miles on it a few years ago when a '12 R1200R became available locally (had been Cy Young's wife's bike) with very low miles on it. That one now has close to 40,000 miles on it - has been flawless. It's been all over the US and a bunch of Canada and ...

Re: throttle sync DOHC and GS-911

Hi Rob - the shims (hemispheres) that BMW offers for the camhead doesn't let you get to that level of accuracy, and I was referring (wrongly) to the hexhead. On the hexheads - I could usually eliminate vibration on someone's bike by getting it to that accuracy or close. There was one forum member wh...

Hey David! Surprisingly - the C's are now considered collectable - I think all except the 3 headlight giant-bug-head-fairing one. What wasn't cool is now cool. Go figure!

Hope all is well! Perhaps see you this summer - I might wander out that way again, and hopefully CA1 is open all the way..

Hi Rob and Harald - amazing - this forum came back to life for a bit.. My detailed write-up (DIY with pics) lives on the BMW-MOA Forums, in the DIY section of the "hex/camheads". That section is only open to registered members, unfortunately.. but perhaps I can answer a few questions here ...
