Re: R1150R rear tire size(s)
I bought this R1100S 5.5” rear wheel a few weeks after I changed a new 170/60/17 Metzeler Z6 on the stock 5" wheel. Based on the home work done, the 5.5" R1100S wheel should fit R1150R without problem. I will update you guys on the suitability of the wheel in…. say, 5 years from now based...

Re: GIVI rack mount for factory BMW system case brackets
Biped, I have the GIVI rack with the BMW side rails and you don't need to take anything off other than the bolts that hold the side rails to the bike at the back. The GIVI rack slides under it (underneath the plastic fender). The bolts that come with the GIVI rack mount are a bit longer I believe a...

GIVI rack mount for factory BMW system case brackets
I just installed a GIVI mono-key rack on my R1150R that uses brackets that mount to my existing BMW system case mounts. The top set of brackets mount in a straightforward way to the holes where the factory luggage rack normally attach. The GIVI system also uses a second set of brackets for support t...

Re: R1150R rear tire size(s)
If one had to have a 180 rear tire to make life perfect and wanted to do it right, would a Rockster rear wheel fit a Roadster? Repainted, of course.

Re: Touring windscreen film problem
What doesn't work so well is Windex. The film forms on both sides of the screen, which makes cleaning it thoroughly a pain. I was wondering if there is a coating, polish, etc., that would inhibit formation of this film in the first place. My dark tinted factory sport screen never does this.

Touring windscreen film problem
My factory R1150R clear plexiglass (or whatever it is made of) touring windscreen gets some kind of film or coating on it just sitting in storage that makes it look cloudy and is hard to clean off. My tinted sport screen has never done this. Any ideas about how to prevent this?

Re: New guy with windshield question.
For those of you who have tried both the BMW touring screen and the sport screen on your R1150R, which do you prefer? I've gone back and forth several times and finally have decided I like the sport screen better. (I'm 6' 2" and use the factory tall saddle.) I guess it puts my head in cleaner a...

Re: The best 79 cents I ever spent
I think the intellectual property is the motorcycle which we paid for. The motorcycle, if copied, say by other lesser makers would be considered a piracy. The DVD is about the bike. The real intellectual hard work went into the bike. If the bike did not exist the DVD would have no value. In contras...

Re: The best 79 cents I ever spent
A dollar buys you practically nothing these days, not even decent cup of coffee. But I found a BMW R1150R workshop DVD on Ebay for less than a buck. Of course I paid 5 for S/H. This DVD is a treasure trove, with clear diagrams, along with concise and explicit steps to do any thing on the bike. I kn...

Re: R1150R clock works intermittently
I picked up the bike today with the clock problem solved. It turned out to be a broken fuse that appeared at a glance to be normal but only made an intermittent connection. At least that was the way it was explained to me. Seems plausible.

Re: Dealer overservicing bikes
This practice has been going on in the auto world for years and is unethical. My defense is to photocopy the maintenance schedule from the owner's manual, highlight the required service for the mileage, and ask for a quote when I walk in. I actually had a service manager say, "Oh -- you want th...

Re: R1150R clock works intermittently
Thanks, Sunbeemer. Good suggestions. I'm electrically challenged, so it will be good to have something to tell the dealer to try. They seem as clueless as me, but I'm not charging for the service.

R1150R clock works intermittently
My 2004 R1150R is a great bike with one weird problem -- the clock will stop working for no reason that my dealer can find (they replaced the clock once already) and then start working again. It appears random; at least I can't associate any specific events with this behavior. I have another service...

Welcome disco_jon75, Nice bike, NICE PRICE! Remove the windshield, remove the backrest, leave the side cases in the garage and ride it like you stole it.   Oh yes, unless you have a bull neck, ditch the Schuberth and grab an Arai (RX-7) a lot lighter, a lot cooler and yo...

Re: GS hand guards on an R1150R - part XXVII
Along with Beemeridian's excellent instructions and pictures, here are some more pictures of mounted handguards. The mounts can be placed at slightly different positions on the bar to allow the needed rotation for lever clearance. My mounts are as high as I could get them and I had to twist the gua...

Re: GS hand guards on an R1150R - part XXVII
"Extensively" may be a slight overstatement. I'll post a photo when I get home. I was mindful not to degrade the structure significantly, but it's still something of a compromise. The handlebar brackets are the real problem. On R1150R bars, they are just don't sit at the correct angle to m...
