This debate has been raging for years. I have a 2004 r1150ra and the antilock brakes saved my bacon coming over a blind hill on a two lane blacktop moving quickly and suddenly encountering, after cresting, a big mess in the road. Hit that front brake for all it is worth and STOPPED!!!!..Both brakes ...

I have a 2004 r1150r with abs....the brakes are linked front to back, but not back to front......the front brake on my bike is very grabby at low speeds and makes it easy to drop the machine, a negative feature of the power assist.... I believe non-abs bikes also have the front to back link.....so w...

If the bike is cold try depressing the gear lever till you feel resistance, hold it there, pop in the clutch and click it down, usually works.

Break use

I find the front brakes on my abs equipped '04 to be very very grabby at low speeds......drop the bike grabby.......and try to remember to n e v e r use the front brakes at parking lot speeds. The brakes are linked front to back but not back to front probably for this reason. go real slow, let your ...

If you have the new ('04) gel battery in your 1150 you MUST get the GEL charger from BMW (made by Deltran).....I made the mistake of using the Battery Tender Jr., and it toasted my battery. Do NOT use your Battery tender Junior with the recent BMW battery......alternatively, get a non-gel technology...

I had one brace that kept getting ooose after an hour or two causing my touring screen to wiggle....I carried a number 9 allen/socket wrench to tighten it. Took it to the shop for service and had the dealer really tighten it and replace a brace that I bent when I dropped the bike. It is dead solid n...

abs brakes

My abs brakes on my '04 saved my bacon once.....cresting a hill on a fast two lane road going a little fast and day dreaming...coming upon a mess in the road...HARD HARD braking which would have locked up a Harley or probably any non abs machine and resulted in a nasty accident. BUT....the servo mec...

I believe the back and front brakes on the r are linked front to back but not back to front whether or not you buy abs ( which I did) ...thus a hard squeeze of the front will cause the computer to add back too........I never use the back brake except when slow slow maneuvering where the grabbyness o...

Gel Batteries and Del Tran Battery Tenders

Do NOT use a del tran battery tender Jr. if you have an '04 or later bike with thje gel battery. I recently posted a sorry tale involving my 2004 r1150ra, it's, original battery and a del tran battery tender junior. I used the Jr to maintain the battery during the cold winter weeks, bike started and...

Fried Battery

Ive been maintaining the battery in my 2004 r1150ra with a deltran battery render junior, using it to charge the battery when the bike's been sitting for a while (winter). The info on the Jr. is conflicting, some say it doesn't work with the gel battery in the '04 1150r, others say it's not optimal ...

I live in the DC area and run Z6's which currently have about 7000 miles on em and don't show very much wear.......inflation may matter....ikeep the front at 37 to 38 and the rear at 42 to 44.

The ABS system on the 50r will bring the bike to a stop quicker than even the best rider riding a non abs machine....assuming the bike is stood up. It's amazing, but the front wheel is grabby going slow and makes it easy to drop the bike......use the rear when your going slow....

that is a very weak battery.......attach a battery tender and let it go to green. Starting the bike and riding it for ten minutes drains the battery....need to run it for half an hour or more.....

I've got the Deltran Junior and use it with my '04 r1150r......so far so good.......I don't leave it on full time, just use to charge up if the bike has been sitting for more than a cold week or two......already had the unit when I got the beemer.....couldn't see paying $$$ for a "bmw" unit.
