Re: Blue Ridge Rarkway - recommendations?
Keep in mind that in NC the BRP speeds are about 35 mph on the weekend in some areas and there can be a lot of congestion north and southwest of Asheville. I rode from Raleigh to Asheville last year with some friends and we camped and rode some portions of the BRP into Cherokee County. If you have a...

Re: Seeking a lab for oil analysis
Can't you send a sample of the oil that you are using (virgin) and a sample of the oil after it has been used for 6,000 miles and compare the results? It seems that you would get the best comparison. I don't know the answer, just asking the question.

Re: Screw in my tire
Note to self...don't ride on a tire with 3 plugs in it for between 5-8K miles it could be hazardous to your health as plugs are temporary. Now I know why my wife looked disappointed
every time I showed up at home.

Re: Blue Ridge Parkway
We stayed in a campground off of 191 in Asheville about 1/2 mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, then went off the Parkway and hit 276 toward Waynesville; then we took 19 through Maggie Valley and past Bryson City. West of Bryson City we took 28 south to Franklin and then took 64 back to 191. By far, t...

New final drive fluid quantity
I was looking at the GS Spot section on adventure rider and there is a discussion about a new specification for final drive oil quantity for 05 and later bikes. The thread is about the GS, but it may also include the RR. The new level appears to be 180ml for a refill. See the thread listed below. ht...

Re: $350 rear tire?
I tried to stretch it too far. I let the tire warm up for a few hours in the sun to let it loosen up, but this particular tire was rally hard. But, needless to say, I just pulled too hard on it...ouch $$$

$350 rear tire?
Yes, that's what it cost after I screwed up the bead on my new Dunlop Roadsmart rear tire. I started my beautiful Saturday 80 degree day by removing my old Pilot Road and easily removing it from the rim. I then began spooning on the Roadsmart and after a couple hours of blood and sweat (went too far...

Re: what did you pay for you 6K service?
Looking back at my receipt for my 6K service, I paid $345 at Capitol BMW in Raleigh, NC. I am getting the supplies together to do the 12K service myself this month. I'll play it safe and use BMW filters and fluids until my warranty runs out. For me, doing the work yourself does require some upfront ...

Re: Problems of R1200R ownership
Riding in Sunny Southern California I was wondering if you had some kind of plug in mini fridge gadget to recommend for the R1200R ? I'll store in this fridge some Iced Matcha Green tea which is excellent for riding awareness---> particularly this brand : http://www.earthhealers.com/you_2...

Does anyone know if any of the seat manufacturers are going to have osterich or alligator covers available for the R? I saw one on a bike and it looked hot

Re: Fire
Did you happen to hear a "sonic boom" prior to the fire. These bikes get really hot when they reenter the atmosphere...plus jet fuel is highly flammable.

Re: What grade gasoline are you using?
I use premium all the time, but on two occasions I have had to use regular grade. If you do the math filling up with premium vs regular grade costs about $2 more per fill up, not exactly a deal breaker on a relatively expensive piece of equipment. The bike can compensate for the lower octane fuel, b...

Re: WHEN A STARTER WONT START
I had the same thing happen when I first got the 12R. The cluster would sweep and then when I hit the starter the cluster would black out. Turned out to be the battery had lost a cell...replaced under warranty. Since that issue, I haven't had any issues with the bike (knock wood).

Thanks for all the responses, I really appreciate it. I'm ordering side cases so the $$ savings is to hard to pass up even if I have to wait. I will give them a call instead of ordering online.

Ordering Parts - Chicago BMW
I have heard that it can take quite a while (2 months) to get parts from Chicago BMW. Has anyone here ordered parts from Chicago BMW and if so, what was your experience? Also, would it be better to order online or call them? Thanks for your help.

Re: New buyer questions - now with new bike photo!
I have a 32" inseam and I've met Bruce and I believe he mentioned he has a 30" inseam. I'm not trying to convince anyone to buy a 20" Cee Bailey screen, just giving my personal opinion on how the screen works for me. I guess that I'm lucky as I bought my 12R used and it just so happen...
