only in 5th?
Does it never do this in gears 1 through 4? If only in 5th then it does sound like a gearbox problem. But I've never heard a complaint like this, especially at only 23k miles. It could be the beginning symptoms of a warn clutch and you'll eventually get slippage in all gears with a big roll-on. If i...

Re: Techlusion
Unfortunatley, The fine people at techlusion will not recomend using any type of modification ( ie , rhinewest) to the fuel system, along with their product. I went thorugh this scenario last year, and fortunatley called RhineWest prior to purchasing, to see if their product would cure surging. The...

I thought the 2-spark fixed all surging.Airman1 wrote:The only thing that has affected the surging in my `03 has been pulling the CCP module, and that doesn't cure it.

carbs
Interesting project!
Could you talk a bit about why you are going with carbs, vs injection? Do you expect much problem in tuning the carbs and how will you do it?
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Spark Plug Socket?
...Cost to repair? About $1K...... Mark Mark, Don't mean to make you feel bad. If you helicoiled the hole, it would have been a few bucks. Paul HeliCoil site Paul I asked the mechanic about that and he said they don't last. Alternative was to take it to the Acura dealer and let them do a more lasti...

comparo
I get exactly the same feeling switching back and forth between my R11R and my K12RS. Except the R is still a lot of fun and no way would I get rid of it. Don't be too hasty selling your R. You may find it still has a place.

Re: Spark Plug Socket?
What brand of spark plug socket is everyone using for plug changes? My Craftsman 5/8" will not fit in the tunnel (single spark). Too big OD. Wrench in the toolkit can remove a socket but won't let you use a torque wrench for re-install. BMWRT.com site search talks about a Kobalt/Lowes socket w...

Re: ABS or Non??
Hey again everybody, all things considered, if you had it to do over, would you buy your bike with or without ABS? Sorry to pick your brains so much. Thanks again, Sarah Sarah: Here is an objective thought experiment that will reveal the truth: Your ABS III bike is out of warranty and the brakes ha...

RTK has a very nice one that is small but expands if you need. It has straps, no complaints at all.gponetwofive wrote:I want a small one (no not that) but not too small. Magnetic vs Straps? Suggestions? Thanks.

slow speed practice
I practice slow speed, tight turn manuevres. I find that one is most likely to run into problems at low speed (like in parking lots), and especially when you don't have momentum to help balance the weight of the bike. It is at low speed and in tight situations when you are most likely to drop the b...

soap
What Mark just said. But I find that baby shampoo works a treat. You know, the stuff that doesn't sting your eyes. Jonothan I have a technical explanation for why it works. (For anybody geeky enough to care). The soap allows film-wise condensation as opposed to drop-wise condensation. When the wate...

Re: z4 vs z6 (tires)
What are the main differences between the z4 and z6's? My bike came with z4s. I'm finding much better performance and significantly longer life from the Z6. The Z6 perform well right up to the point where the wear bars show whereas the Z4 feel lousy well before that. I'm really impressed with the Z...

wideband
My understanding was that the new oxygen sensor is a "wide band" device that give better instantaneous readings on the exhaust gas mixture. It replaces the O2 sensor already stuck in the catalytic converter. Pricey item, though should make a difference in running. Our bikes come with a na...

Re: Water around gas tank opening
I went to refuel the other day and noticed water sitting in the rim of the gas tank opening. Isn't it supposed to drain away completely? How do I fix this? There are holes there but they don't seem to work as a drain. I tried sticking a thin wire in the hole but it didn't make a difference. Finally...

speedo/odo error
FGanger- Several years ago on another web site I read that the Speedometer error on the R is 10% plus 1 1/2 mph. That seems to be accurate from my experience. Several weeks after I got the bike I was testing out a new Parabellum windshield on an interstate at an indicated 91mph. The cop who stopped...
