Re: Alternator belt replacement question
I'm not entirely sure what your tech is talking about, but I just replaced my '04's last week. There's one bolt and 2 nuts holding the alternator in place. On the left side is an adjuster bolt (opposite the mounting nut), this will tension the belt. My Haynes manual says to torque this to 8Nm and ho...

Re: Just bought an '04 R1150R
Congratulations. I concur regarding the seat, but don't be hasty, give it a while and see if you don't break-in to the new position. After a few 100 (maybe 1000) miles I started to dig the seat. What initially was a ball breaking slip-n-slide is now; well, let's just say I don't notice it anymore an...

High Beam vs. Low Beam...
Apologies if this is the wrong forum, but, the 'gear and safety' forum looked a little dusty... So, I was told today by an MSF instructor that there is a RECENT study that shows running the Low Beam during daytime is actually safer than running the High Beam. Something about the High Beam being so b...

You might also want to check the antifreeze level in the radiators. That's the second thing I tried - right after rotating my tires. Thanks for the replies. I kinda figured (hoped) it was the battery, but a dead boxer in the front yard makes a noob fear for the worse... like Bendix dys...

Won't start but will sound like a tommy gun...
Hi all. Got a new-to-me '04 r1150r w/ 37k. Yesterday it wouldn't turn over but I could hear a tat-tat-tat-tat-tat rapid fire type noise coming from the starter. Figured the battery was near death (it has a westco agm battery of unknown age), so I hooked it up to the charger overnite. Today, same thi...

Re: Back Protector
I have the standard Aerostich back protector in my Roadcrafter, seems substantial/sufficient, IMO. I also have a somewhat flimsy foam pad in my Fieldsheer "High-flow" mesh jacket, it is better than nothing, but after getting used to the 'stich I want more from my mesh gear...

Re: In the middle of the BIG ONE!
That's an amazing story. I've heard of the 'belt sander test' in protective gear evaluation but you are taking it too far!! Lucky AND prepared. Your tale should become one of the cautionary vignettes in the next edition of Proficient Motorcycling... Seriously though, I want to reassure you regarding...
