Re: Valve stem hole size
My package is labeled 0.453 inches, which works out to 11.5mm, which I guess is close enough to 11.3mm. It's the smaller of the two sizes available at NAPA. I also use the shorter ones (7/8 inch), as it can be a might difficult to get an air chuck on anything much longer.

Re: Extra storage space on the bike
I do believe he's referring to the cavity under the rear of the gas tank and above the airbox. Keep in mind that that area is not weathertight and is very subject to pollution if you develop a fuel leak under your tank. Yep, I use that spot, too, and all the rest I can squeeze out of the bike withou...

Re: Since the forks lock left or right, got a preference?
I've gotten in the habit of turning the wheel to the right and locking it. That way, if I forget to unlock the forks before rocking the bike off of centerstand I will have half a chance of catching the bike with my left leg before it hits the ground.

I am 5' 10" and had bad buffeting with the sport screen. Switched to the smaller fly screen and am very happy with things, my helmet is in clean air now.

Re: problem externalizing fuel filter
DO NOT USE REGULAR FUEL INJECTION HOSE INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. If you put fuel hose inside your tank and it cost less than $20 per foot, you put the wrong stuff in and IT WILL FAIL. Trust me, I know after getting stranded in BFE in the middle of the night waiting for a flatbed to come haul me out (luc...

Re: Mounting Tool Tube on RR
I removed the canister and mounted the tool tube in its place. I had to make up some simple brackets with aluminum angle and I cut off the mounting tab from the tube. With the right side bag in place, it is locked up tight and cannot be accessed. Without the bag, it is not theft secure. I keep a 1L ...

Re: Two up luggage question
I used the mounting ears from the BMW rack and mounted a plastic cutting board to the top. Shaped the cutting board a bit and added slots for attaching straps. Drilled and countersunk holes for flathead bolts and used some of the scrap cutting board to make spacers to fit between the ears and the bo...

Re: Which Bags Fit?
Remeber that if you are going to mount the large left side bag from the RT that not only must you lower or remove the exhaust, but you must either add a bracket to the bag or relocate the nub on the left passenger footrest, as the slots on the RT bag are in a different spot.

Here's the one you want:
Nelson-Rigg UV 2000
Cheap, works great, packs small. I have the large and it covers the headlight and fly screen, back to the taillight and the tops/upper sides of the side cases.

Yep, I'm heading up earlier in the week (Tuesday/Wednesday, I think) and planning a leisurely 2-day ride home to Florida on Sunday/Monday. I'm not near Daytona, but can probably make it to within a few hours away before splitting. Not sure of my route/plan for the way home, yet.

Re: Zip ties/Broken wire
Do your warning lamps work (neutral, oil pressure, etc)? Do the heated grips work? Will the bike start if it's in gear and you have the clutch all the way pulled in? Failure of one of the above would result from a broken green-with-black wire. Are you sure the wire is completely severed and not just...

Re: New Horn Wiring Question
I first wanted to use the stock horn relay and upgrade the wiring to handle a real horn. Only problem is that it is next to impossible to identify/acquire the BMW connectors to fit in the stock fuse box so you can use your own wiring. And, if you can find them, it will take a huge amount of work to ...

I have abs You still have to raise the tank? Or enough length to pull it out into sunlight? My system won't work with ABS. I do have to completely remove the tank to access the filter, but don't have to open the tank. Removing the tank is pretty easy once you've done it a few times (I think I did i...

Re: The fuel filter *&^!%)*^%#$!!!!
I externalized it. Stuck it in the space where the ABS stuff goes. I also zip-tied a spare (in a ziploc bag) in that same space, so if I get stuck with bad gas in the middle of nowhere, I have everything I need readily accessible.
