2004 1150r Valve Adjustment Stud Snapped off
I'm hoping someone can send me in the right direction. I have a 2004 1150r and when I was changing my oil, I found a cracked off threaded stud and a nut in my oil pan  https://photos-4.dropbox.com/t/2/AADjyFkJjI_-9tjIF6Y9lomTJMnalGN3jr5GVZAXJOlFvA/12/10493507/jpeg/32x32/1/_/1/2/IMG_2646.JPG/E...

Re: Going to Colorado, any advice on roads?
+++++ 1 on Independence Pass - From just south of Leadville to Aspen. Think its Rt 52, not sure. But views that rival some of the Rockies best. Just gorgeous Alpine viewing. Did it in July and want to go back

Not Trying to start another oil debate...
I'm heading out on a trip and need to change the oil. I've been running Mobil 1 15w-50, but saw a greatt deal on Castrol 20w-50. I have no idea what the difference is. Am I safe to use 20w-50 onn my '04 1150r? Thanks.

Repainting Advice & Color Codes
I'm doing some repairs on my bike and noticed a few items that I'd like to repair and repaint, but have been unsuccessful in finding the appropriate color codes for my dashboard support and lugggage frame for my 04 1150r. The dashboard support pictured below was scratched when I removed it (why is a...

New Shock Deals
I looked for older posts on this subject and the questions I had, so if it has been talked about before, I apologize. I see a lot of posts about changing shocks. I've got a 04 with 25K (most loaded on trips or two up). I'm wondering: 1) What is the usefule life in miles typical for oem shocks? 2) Wh...

Re: Hard Bag Repair
John, no they were more scuffed than dented. Both sides a result of dropping the bike while standing still - a little embarassing, but true. So I just sanded down until it was smooth and used the bbq paint. I didn't even use primer - I had read somewhere you had to be careful with the paint because ...

Re: Hard Bag Repair
It took me a while to implement the advice, but thanks to everyone, it worked out great. At the same time, I thought I'd fix my deeply scratched valve covers. Both projects were pretty easy to do, came out great and I think should last pretty long and any "upkeep" should be pretty easy. He...

Windshield Brace Bolt Stripped
I have a '04 1150r on which I installed the BMW windshield 4 or so years back. Over the years I have noticed that the right rear brace (see first picture below) became loose after a few thousand miles of driving. I would tighten it when I noticed a slight rattling when I went over huge bumps. I even...

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for this post, just now sure where to put it. I'm using flickr and grabbing the link and pasting inbetween the Img brackets - my link looks like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/54570543@N08/5051157725/ But when I go to preview or post, this is the message in r...

Re: Fuel Filter replacement
Keithbw: I don't know whether I used the right technique, but after i removed the bolts, I twisted the entire "assembly" to the right and at that point it wasn't really stuck, but it seemed to become very tight. I realized that the filter was about half way out out of the hole and that I c...

Fuel Filter replacement
After reading all the entries about what a B*%ch changing the fuel filter is, I trepidly decided to give it a try anyway for my 24K maintenance on my 04 1150r. Not sure if anyone else had this experience - I didn't need to take the filter and pump assembly out of the tank. I was planning on doing so...

Re: 6,000 mile service advice
I also have an '04 which I purchased used with a few thousand miles on it. I took it to the dealer for my 6K service, and though the guys were nice and seemed to be competent, they don't necessarily have time to go over in detail the kind of information you want about your new "baby". Afte...

24K-25K Maintenance Items
I am just getting to 24K and have been doing my own maintenance for a while. I was searching for a maintenance schedule for my '04 and came accross a schedule posted on http://www.ironhorsemotorcycles.com for BMW motoricycles (it included quite a few models including the 1150r) that called for the f...

Re: Elf pegs--yea or nay?
Don't the jugs get too hot to rest your legs on? I've thought about it often on log rides, but was too scared that it might even burn my boots if I rested on them.

Hard Bag Repair
I bought some pretty deeply scratched used BMW bags for my 1150r a year ago. I didn't think it was going to bother me, but it does. Looks like there are plenty of options for "smooth" bag repair - you just fill in the cracks and sand. Doesn't seem like this will work for the bmw "oran...
