Re: Potential problem

Harold,
Thanks for posting the picture, I have also installed the seal, seems like it should take care of the issue.

Re: Potential problem

Neil, I think there are two issues here. One, like you say is the blocked drain tube. When that gets blocked water that gets under the cap will potentially get into the tank with your gas. The other issue is the gap between the tank and filler tube at the top of your tank, any time it rains or you w...

Re: Potential problem

While out on a ride Sunday I ran into a fellow with a 1000RR, that bike appears to have the same cap and tube set-up as ours, with one major difference. There is now a rubber? seal/ gasket between the tank and tube to keep water out of there. Guess they found there was a problem with the original se...

Re: Potential problem

Don, Thanks for checking, I have a little can of rustoleum waiting for when the weather warms up a bit. I think I will look for the primer as well. I got a nice ride in this weekend in the Hudson Valley where I now live. If you are ever up this way give a shout, great roads with very little traffic. ...

Re: Potential problem

Don, It is interesting that there is actually a second drain at the bottom of the filler tube, but it is seperated from where the water sits by the gasket. If you take yours off you will see what I mean, I am looking forward to hearing what kind of condition yours is in. I think the engineers fell a...

Re: Potential problem

I finally got a photo of the rust problem below the filler tube on the tank. https://picasaweb.google.com/109051775263617113387/R12R?authkey=Gv1sRgCMvD3LuJx9X2fQ# Hopefully my experiment with pasting it in works, if not you should be able to go to the URL. This photo is taken after I scraped the fla...

Re: Potential problem

I think there are two issues here. One is the plugged drain that captures water that makes its way inside the cap and then into your tank if the drain is plugged. The second is water getting between the tank and tube, there is no drain at that point and the water just sits there. In my case it ruste...

Re: Potential problem

I will try to get a pic this week. I don't think it is climate related, (I moved to the Hudson valley two years ago, got to update my profile)I think it is because the water gets in there and has nowhere to go.

Potential problem

I noticed last fall that I was having an issue with water building up in the well under the gas cap on my 07 R. I would see water there after I rode in the rain or after I washed the bike, my fix at the time was to mop up the water with a rag or paper towel which would remove all the water you could...

Re: Did anyone ever buy the Wudo ---- fairing?

Having to drill your own holes on a piece of plastic that cost $800 is a bit over the top. Dave how is it working out now that you have had it on the bike for a while?
Has anyone seen or tried the Wunderlich fairing?

Re: Another Windshield Option

Don,
The top of the mounts from center are 3/4 inch from the shield. Also, the shield I have is 20"( that number comes from comparing to the Cee Bailey)and I see over it.

Another Windshield Option

Like many people I was not very happy with the windshield possibilities out there; my R came with the "touring" shield which was fine for back roads and in town but not much good for highway speed or below 45 degrees. I tried a Cee Bailey 18 inch screen and the buffeting was pretty bad. So...

Re: Observations on new tires

I also have Conti Road Attacks on my R, 10,000 miles on the front and it is not at the wear bars yet and very nice stability on twisty New England roads. What is really great is how evenly they have worn, no cupping or wearing more on one side which used to happen onthe z6,s which I had on my Rt. Th...
