Heck, there's nothing wrong with having a V-Strom 650 as a second bike.

"When you get past 100k miles you find out why" If one thing is sure, it's that this is no longer a valid reason. Especially with the continuing saga of rear drive failures. Not to mention past transmission failures. Plenty of Honda's go well past 100k miles with bulleet-proof reliability...

Re: leaning

Bruno, I do not mean to argue, but in the interest of correct information being disseminated: Your statement "the more you lean the more grip your tires are generating to keep the lean" is just plain wrong. Aww man. If you're going to quote me, you need to quote me accurately. You ...

Re: leaning

Did I see a reference to "smaller footprint while leaned over.....", because that is just plain, outright INCORRECT. Well. . .we want to avoid getting hung up on a term and missing the concept. Your tires' grip varies on a continuum. At one end, you have maximum cornering grip. At the oth...

Re: down shift while turning....

Why do I not get the same ugly reaction decelerating or accelerating mid turn?? The bike doesn't like it. Corners should be negotiated smoothly, kind of like a sweeping motion. a-decelerate, adjust speed for type of radius, select proper gear b-turn in c-at apex (roughly mid corner) begin throttlin...

Re: down shift while turning....

Why is my R1150R so solid down shifting as long as it aint leaned over?? The slightest jerkiness accelerating or decelerating will feel bad. It upsets the bike. When the bike is leaned over, the less input a rider gives, the better. This is standard teachings at track schools. There was one track w...

Re: Gee...

And this: Not a good idea to vary throttle input while leaning her over, ESPECIALLY with the engine braking these Boxers have, coupled with NO fuel flow to keep your engine spinning. Is especially a complete crock... Do this in a ham fisted way in the rain, especially on a big twin, and you could f...

Re: Gee...

Gee... I guess in 35 years of riding, and 22 years of racing, I have been doing it *ALL* wrong... A skilled rider can make many things work. What I'd recommend to someone developing skills is different. Cuz' I downshift, upshift, make in-flight corrections to lean angle, corrections to body...

the solution to all this is a slipper clutch. Supermoto & MotoGP guys can go from 6th to 2nd, dump the clutch, and the slipper clutch will smoothly reconnect the transmission (simplified description). Methinks we'll see slipper clutches on sport bikes VERY soon, and then many other production b...

So engine braking, 'compression', WITH A TRANSFER OF WEIGHT, ON A SMALLER REAR TIRE FOOTPRINT - WHILE LEANED OVER - IS GONNA MOMENTARILY/ALMOST LOCK UP YOUR REAR WHEEL!!!! Not a good idea to vary throttle input while leaning her over, ESPECIALLY with the engine braking these Boxers have, coupled wi...

Re: Helmet cleaning

Any suggestions for cleaning the inside of a helmet. Mine is starting to smell a little gamey in there. I have the Arai Astral II, only the cheekpads are removable to wash. Any products out there, or any suggestions. If your liner parts do not come out: What I use: A sink, maybe a towel to put unde...

Re: BMW Phase Change Functional Undersuit jacket

Has anyone tried the BMW Phase Change Functional Undersuit jacket? The principle of phase change material is good ie in cooling vests. That's because there is a sufficient thickness of it. Phase change material absorbs and releases heat. How much it can absorb depends on how much material there is....

Are these heated vests good, then? Are they really effective? They certainly do work and they are very effective. Once you experience heated clothing, it's hard to go back. :smt023 Bruno Montreal, Canada Gerbing Heated JACKET LINER Review http://pages.videotron.com/mcrides/product_evals/gerbing/lin...
