Battery ground cable termination - location?
Folks I'm having one heck of a time locating the other end of the negative cable that connects the battery to the engine/transmission. The dealer says its on the engine forward of the battery and that you can see it from the side. I'm not finding anything that looks like a heavy gauge cable. She's a...

Re: Replacing Latch On Bags Help..
In 120,000 miles I've replaced that latching mechanism at least 5 times. My assistant's husband is a machinist and he was surprised at the poor quality of the casting for the latching mechanism. After all of those replacements I got tired of shelling out hundreds of dollars and drilled a couple of s...

Re: New guy, not on a BMW yet...
Can't speak to the triumph to BMW switch but after more than 20 years on other metric bikes, once I switched to the R1150R I started dreaming of riding her if I couldn't ride for a few days (winter sucks in West Virginia). After 10 years on this machine I still dream of riding if I can't get on her ...

Re: Fuel Mileage
Because of the oil cooling on the R1150R I'm more likely to notice the effect of friction on fuel mileage. When I ride below 30F MPG drops to 38-40 and gets better with warmer temps. At very high temps - 85-100 my mileage goes up to 48-55 on long trips. I only use mid to high test gas. Former bikes ...

Re: 50k bike: What to look for?
I'm not sure I'd worry about much at 50,000 if the bike has a decent maintenance record. Don't know about the market out that way but if all the bikes of that age/mileage are coming in at the same rate it seems it's what the market will bear. I bought my '02 R1150R from a salvage yard with 16,000 on...

Re: Crossing 100,000
Welcome to the club. The nice thing about hitting 100,000 miles in Canada is that the odometer is metric. Mine shows 162,000.Great bikes EH! Indeed - great bikes. And I'm sorry that only the US and Burma, or Myanmar (or whatever) are the only two countries on earth still holding on to this idiot sy...

Re: Crossing 100,000
Did you have to replace your clutch yet? If so, at what mileage was that done? Just curious. I have a buddy here with 95K and he's worried about his clutch. Thanks My only two problems with this bike have been a final drive bearing (I thought a tire was riding oddly and the mechanic traced it to th...

Re: short, but COLD commute gear
I use over pants and a jacket that are from Fieldsheer and have an outer shell made of ballistic nylon. The pants are relatively easy to get on and off and I usually wear a sweater under the jacket. I only use heated gloves below 20F as my regular cold weather gloves along with the heated grips are ...

Crossing 100,000
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a profile shot as the traffic on Interstate 81 was heavy, but I was able to stop next to milepost 288.5 (about 2 miles south of Toms Brook, Virginia, US) to get this shot from the seat. She's a 2002 R1150R that I purchased in 2005 from a salvage yard in Cumberland ...

Re: NZPOM coming to Washington
There are two BMW dealerships in the DC area. Bob's BMW is in Laurel Maryland and they have a small collection of early bikes. Mortons is the second dealership - located in Frederickburg, VA. I had done some research for friends coming in from the Netherlands and there are outfitters who rent R-bike...
