Re: Just got a R1150R

If the bike still has the original plastic fuel quick disconnects, replace them with metal ones NOW.

Re: Rust zone issue on lower end of hydraulic clutch hose

Hi, I changed my clutch cable 1.5 years ago, bought separate parts from Venhill in UK: This is the special 6mm banjo: Product Name: 3-60163C M6 90DEG LONG SIDE BEND BANJO CHROME Line Total: £6.30 I ordered 1175mm long line, but I think 1200mm would not be too long. 1150mm would have been too short. ...

Re: Brake Hoses on R1150 R

1. Whether you should be concerned or not, I guess you are the only one who can decide that. After reading some reports of internally collapsed OEM hoses and looking at the general quality of rubber parts of the bike, I was concerned. I also have 02 R, and changed the hoses at ~50k miles. I had not ...

Re: Front Brakes Will NOT BLEED

Seems that you have a 12 years old bike. If it still has the original rubber brake lines, you should replace them IN ANY CASE. If you are not convinced about this, read some horror stories about clogged brake lines in different BMW forums.

Re: Rear Brake Rotor Replacement ('04 R1150R ABS)

This is too late for the OP but I have used EBC rear rotor and found nothing wrong with it. Seems to be more durable than the BMW one. I am using TRW-Lucas organic brake pads in the rear brake, they may not have the best stopping power nor durability but they do not wear the rotor as quickly as the ...

Re: Spiegler Front Brake Lines: 3-hose or 4-Hose?

Why can't you use the double Banjo bolt and a separate lines to each front caliper with ABS brakes? You can. Here are pictures of my 2 line setup (+1 from master cylinder to ABS unit): http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e101/t130397/double_banjo_zps38a93d42.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e101...

Champion C301 filter size changed?

I have been using Champion C301 oil filters successfully for years and have a wrench that fits them. However, I noticed that the latest filter I bought has smaller diameter than the earlier ones so my wrench does not work for it any more. In the filter housing there is also a crimp that did not exis...

Re: New member, spline lube done!

Any specialty tooling or tool ' modification ' required to do this job ?? You don't need any special tools to get to the clutch (I don't count Torx tools as special since you need them in any case when working on this bike). If you change the gearbox input shaft seals you need a tool to pull out th...

New member, spline lube done!

Hi all I have been lurking on this forum for years, but contributed very little so thought it is my turn now… My ’02 bike has 92 000 km (57 000 miles) on the meter and I started to get worried about the condition of the clutch splines. During the late autumn and Christmas time I “cut the bike in hal...

Re: Bike was done with the ride WAY before I was...

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago. The engine just suddenly stalled when I was riding at 100 km/h and did not start again. The reason was that one of the fuel lines inside the tank had disconnected.

ABS brake bleeding - the easy way

Hi all R enthusiasts, Last weekend I changed the brake fluid of my '02 R1150R ABS using method described here: http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/578133/page/0/fpart/1/vc/1 Bleeding the (wheel circuit of) servo-assisted ABS brakes is actually easier than bleeding a norma...

I had this same problem with my 2002 ABS model. I went through 3 sets of rear brake pads during the first 30,000 km, and the disc was changed at 20,000 km. Now I am using Lucas "organic" brake pads, and at least the brake disc wear is not that bad any more, but still I don't expect to get ...

Valve clearances

Hi Beemergurus, I made my first valve adjustment yesterday, and found it as easy as on my old CX500. Anyway there was one thing that was surprising, the valve clearances were too tight, especially on the exhaust side. Should I assume that the valves were adjusted too tight by the dealer, or do the o...

Hi guys, Being a Finn myself, I had to comment this post (my first posting to the board, by the way...) I think you have seen some group on their way to "Talviralli" or "Winter Rally" that was held in the western part of Finland on 10th-12th Febryary. Generally it is extremely un...
