Seems that you have a 12 years old bike. If it still has the original rubber brake lines, you should replace them IN ANY CASE. If you are not convinced about this, read some horror stories about clogged brake lines in different BMW forums.

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago. The engine just suddenly stalled when I was riding at 100 km/h and did not start again. The reason was that one of the fuel lines inside the tank had disconnected.
