Post Maintenance Test Ride - Be Careful

Ten months and 10,000 mi ago I picked up my bike after an annual service where I had all fluids changed (engine, transmission, brakes and final drive). It was a 25 mi ride home, including 13 mi of decent curves. Upon arrival this is what I saw: http://rjap.smugmug.com/photos/i-cmj49zG/0/S/i-cmj49zG-...

Re: BMW R1200 2009 VS BMW 2011 is it worth upgrading

While getting a 24,000 mi service on my 2012 R1200R Classic I put 100 mi on a hexhead R1200R service loaner with 42,000 mi. I thought my camhead was noticeably, but not significantly, smoother and quieter. At higher RPM's there was not much to distinguish them in terms of power, but between 2000 and...

Re: I'm selling my 07' R1200R.

Sat on the 9T at the IMS in Seattle. It is well done and looks and feels fantastic. You will not be disappointed. The 9T (and also the S1000R) got a lot of attention, more than the new Super Duke 1290 or Monster 1200 S.

Re: Questions from a prospective buyer

I think the computer is useful for the temperature readout and the very accurate average MPG readout. Knowing the size of the tank and resetting the average MPG each fill up enables an accurate range prediction, which is important for me. As for ESA, I would rather have high end (Ohlins, Wilbers, et...

My dealer says you should wash a bike before bringing it in for service. Makes sense to me. I think it shows you respect your bike and the service technicians.

Re: I'm selling my 07' R1200R.

I've always found my R1200R Classic makes it difficult to rationalize getting a second bike (for me the contenders would be an R1200RT, R1200GS, K1600GT, K1300S, Monster, CB1100, Griso, or even a Road King). You have found a clever way, but I doubt Nancy is fooled.

Re: Luggage Width

I measure BMW OEM system cases fitted on a R1200R camhead to be approximately 39" to 40" wide when installed.

Re: Long Distance with the R1200R

I have little experience with long distance days or tours (miles) on the R1200R, but I've done quite a few long days (hours) during weekend excursions. Based on that my thoughts on the R1200R for the occasional long trip: Ergonomics: I'm 6'1" with a 35" inseam and 175lb. With the standard ...

I'm guessing the close up photo of the tank showing the BMW roundel and "R1200R" logo crossed some boundary. Thanks for your efforts Joe.

Re: Driving on mountain roads

I think I am usually at 3500 to 4500 rpm on my camhead. Based on my experience with a R1200R Hexhead service loaner I would probably run a gear lower and 4500 to 5500 rpm.

How is the K1600GT? A bike I lust after but am not nearly ready for!

Came across this track video of the K1600GT. There is flash of Candy

Actually, it looks more like an R nineTW than an R1200RW. Not much in the way of a rear seat, luggage rack or pannier provisions.

Re: What did your R12R or you get for Christmas?

Alex - I think you're catching up to me on fuel strips (I'm on #8).. when was the last one installed? My friendly dealer service manager claimed they've had no come-backs on ones they installed since around June of 2013. He thought that perhaps BMW got the vendor to actually address the problem wit...

My R1200R: A 24,000 mi service. And a fifth fuel strip. It has been so long since the last one failed

Re: 2014 Calendar

My 2 cents:

3, 6, 11, 13, 14. 15, 26, 31, 33, 35, 37, 41

A little cropping or straightening on a few wouldn't hurt. The bikes ability as a pack mule is certainly evident in a lot of the photos!

Thanks Finn.
