Re: tire talk
With only 6600 miles on the clock I just had to change out my Z8s. The rear had some wear left and had flattened off but the BMW dealer who kindly let me take a new GS out for a three hour spin said that what I had thought of as "feathering"on the front tyre was actually part of a "bu...

Re: Booster plug
Beg to differ. My bike has its First uK annual MOT test soon and this includes exhaust emissions. I was recently trying to track down a loose wire on my aux lights so while I was under the tank I disconnected the plug ready for the test. On the two subsequent rides, the snatchiness of the throttle a...

Kyle, that's a good call. The same thing happens with the Schuberth helmets too.

Re: BMW system 6 helmet
I'm on my second Schuberth S1 and I think they have a better fit than any other helmet on the market ........ Except for the BMW system 6 evo ( which I confess I've only tried on in the shop) ..... Which is made for BMW by ........ Yep, you guessed it, Schuberth :D My next helmet will be a 6evo beca...

Re: Is this a faux pas?
What a woman! :D If you think 4000 miles is daft, wait until you see how much they charge for Yamalube oil! I think this is. A sign she wants to go touring with you so you need to ask her to buy you a Wilbers rear shock for Christmas :D Wonderful bikes but I chopped mine in for the R because the wei...

Re: Throttlemeister on for cruise control
As somebody with arthritis I'm a big fan of Throttlemeister friction locks for long journeys. I had them on my last two FJRs and I now have a similar style device from Wunderlich fitted to the R1200. Crampbusters and their ilk can actually be dangerous. They can allow you to be applying the front br...

Re: Range on a full tank
A couple of weekends ago I brought my R1200 up to my place in Aberdeenshire so I can play on the wonderful local roads when work keeps me here over the weekend. I had a fair trip over two days - the first of which was spent getting out of East Anglia and slogging north up the A1. After a pleasant ov...

Re: Should you buy iPhone?
I recently changed from Blackberry to Iphone 5. Because I'm a fairly mobile worker I find it gives me far better connectivity to all my work apps than theblackberry. I'm really impressed with it. My wife got the Samsung Galaxy III and finds that every app she wants to download she has to sell her so...

Re: lowered suspension or not?
I have a 29 inch inseam and I bought the standard '11 bike but got the dealer to swap over to the standard "sport" seat because I found the Comfort seat difficult to swing a leg over. Since then I've had it re-covered with a gel insert and raised 1/2 inch to increase the distance between t...

Re: Successful Long Ride and Sports Screen
A couple of weeks ago I moved some stuff up to my work related pad in Aberdeen from Norfolk. I've long been a fan of Northern England, Dumfries and Galloway etc. The further I got into Scotland the more I wished I was on my bike as the weather those 2 days was perfect for biking!

Re: 2011 - Mirror Vibration from 4,000-4,500 RPM
Wonderlich sells a set of mirror extenders that fit into the original mounting holes and moves the mirrors up, forward and out. Interesting side effect, they stop the vibration. I bought a set and much to my delight found the vibration issue solved. My mirrors were all but useless at all RPM's. The...

I say Sir What? What? Pip Pip chin, chin cheerio and all that what? Does one not normally expect good service from us Brits? :D Must admit I've ordered loads of bits from Norman and he is indeed a cut above the rest in terms of customer service. Other outlets in the UK sell wunderlich kit but are sl...

Re: The R1200R Photo Discussion Thread!
I hardly ever manage to remember to take a photo of my bike when I'm on tour so here's a rare pic of the beastie on her first tour (the 12 not Mrs S) in full rig (SW Motech City Quicklok tank bag, System cases and Givi Maxia 52 topbox) http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g226/ShakeyFJR/2012%20Tour/DSC...

Re: More senseless violence against dead horses-yup, windscr
I'm on my "third and a halfth" screen. i.e. a BMW touring screen but with one of those ugly wunderlich things bolted to the top. Please could somebody explain what the DonC tilt block does (yeah, yeah, it tilts right?), where it fits, what it looks like and how it works? I can't find this ...

I'm not familiar with the 350 at all but I run a 660 and I have a lifetime maps update subscription too. The 660 has the exit graphic feature and is an excellent device for the road. I bought my wife one of the factory refurbished units and they are totally as new but somewhat cheaper. The thing to ...

Re: Comfortable perch
Oddly enough I preferred the sport seat to the "Comfort" seat that came with the bike so my dealer kindly did a foc swap for me. I think the tag "Uncomfort seat" is spot on after about an hour. I haven't ridden the modifies seat yet but just sitting on that gel pad, I know it's g...

Re: The Farkling Continues!
Remus Hexacone Titanium silencer - actually quieter than original but fruitier and much lighter. I wanted to get this exhaust but now you kinda slowed me down. Is it quieter with a db killer? Is there a db killer that I can remove? I want something just a bit louder than an original muffler. Not tr...
