Split handle grips
I have a new to me 2002 R1150R with heated grips. The rubber is split across the ridges. I have tried super glueing the cut, but it doesn't stay repaired for long. Can the rubber grips be replaced or is there an after market slip on grip that will work. My dealer says I need to replace the heated grips all together. Seems a bit drastic. Thanks for any advice.

Re: Split handle grips
I think the f650gs, 1100gs and the r bikes share the same grips (check the part #s ) but if you are careful with a razor knife you can remove the grips and with a little lube such as acetone or some thing similar to use on the new $20 oem grips they will slide on then carefully pull up each end of the new grips and put a drop of superglue to hold in place you are good to go and save approx. $120. I did this on a f650gs and know several people that have done it with success ( one of them showed me how) The f650 forum describes this in detail better than I have. Good luck

Order two of the following BMW part # 32 72 1 458 396
I prefer to use the compressed air method as seen here to remove and install grips. Using compressed air to install the grips will make the process effortless.
