Will the ZTechnik or another brand of exhaust lowering kit work with the stock exhaust? The ZTechnik kit claims that it should be used with the ZTechnik muffler and will NOT work with the OEM muffler (according to ZTechnik catalog). Has anyone tried it or another one with a stock pipe? Could not find much info on the Wudo kit or a source for those in the USA.

I'm sure BMW have one..I think it's listed under the GS parts..and it fits our bike. (R1150R)

The only Z-Technic exhaust lowering kit I've seen worked with the Z-technic Y pipe and muffler. Be careful, and ask lots of questions before you buy it.

Just saw your handiwork in that regards in another thread. I'm WAY interested. Is a new exhaust connector piece necessary, or can the pipe just be rotated down a little?

Oh, yeah and tell me about those "seat riser blocks" you've made.

There isnt a need for a connector piece with the bracket. I plan on making a few brackets some time this week, hopefully be ready early next week. The seat risers are just basically 1x1x3/4(or 1/2) machined aluminum bocks that mount under the existing seat mount. They raise the front of the seat up so your "boyz" arent making love to the tank when you apply the brakes(reduces the forward sliding). If you wanna go the DIY route, you can get some washers and stack em up, and put em under the bracket, but I'm a bit anal and made some that look nice and tidy. If you go the DIY route just make sure you get longer bolts. I included these with the pair when I made em.

Anybody else interested in the bracket gimme a heads up so i know how much material I need to buy and how many to make. You can PM me and lemme know. Also thinkin of making a few more sets of barbacks.

Hope you've got my name against a set of barbacks mate and dependant on price i may try the seat raisers....can't say i've notice a problem there, but, there again, i've not done that many miles yet..

Only have pics of the first version I made. Redesigned them since then though . I dont have any newer ones left and didnt get a chance to take a picture of em, but sneding pics to your PM of the older version

If you are lowering it to fit a full size bag, the other option is to just remove the muffler and put a tip on the pipe. You can get a tip at a local auto parts store.

You will not notice much of an increase in noise with the muffler off, and it is a cheaper option than buying a lowering kit.

Please excuse my ignorance............I am looking to lower the exhaust to fit full size panniers for a trip in June, what do you guys mean by fitting a tip and is there a part number or pic please?

The catalytic converter does much of the noise muffling, so the can itself can be removed with very little increase in noise. The general consensus is that a trip to a muffler shop or auto parts store will produce a tip that can be used in place of a muffler. I did a search here on "remove muffler".This post had a bunch of good info and a link or two

Haven't done this yet, but am considering it strongly.

Here's some of my pictures showing what the no can and full size left case is all about..btw..Mines been like this for 6yrs now...It works great.

Because the full size left case has a different foot position you will need to make a bracket or do a mod to the case.

from the middle pic of the set it appears you have a 'back to back' bracket is that correct??
in the last pic it shows as a single brk't and the case mod.. or is the camera playing tricks with regard to the second brk't??

Yes..You're right...I made the back to back braket for my bike..It was a lot of work and looks a bit odd then the case is not on.

The other pic is not mine..I was just showing the better option imo (doing the mod to the case)...and much easier to do also.
