Idle flucuation?

So I noticed today that may idle speed is set high, near 1400 RPM. I know I need to lower it. What concerns me here is that the idle speed fluctuates while stopped, sometimes dropping as low as 1000 RPM or has high as 1600 RPM. Could a fudged up the valve adjustment last time caused this idle inconsistency?

Suggestions?

valve adjustment will not affect idle quality, at this juncture I would suspect a vacuum leak via a disconnected or cracked hose. Have you checked the rubber hoses that plug to the bottom of the TB's, and the ones to the carbon canister?

While I was cooking my oil struggling through Sheffield, I noted the idle speed got a bit slower and rougher than usual.
Normally it idles fine at ~1000rpm and went back to that when things got cooler. So maybe temperature related as well?

Yep.....when the oil gets nice and hot, the idle becomes erratic.....it is also a sign to get out of the traffic jam and get some cooling to the engine.

I checked my tubes at the bottom of the TB, where you plug in the TWINMAX. Everything looked fine, and well connected, no cracking or breakage was apparent. I checked the hose to the charcoal canister as well and that appears fine, but I did not remove the tank.....maybe that will be weekend project. Any other thoughts on potential causes?
