Wunderlich Sportego Handlebars

Post by RideandDrive »

I just replaced my stock bars with these and I must say the riding position is much better for me. One caveat with the bars is that they are not drilled for heated grips so you must drill a couple of holes.

The bars are a little lower than stock and the pullback isn't as much as stock. I feel this helps the riding position since the factory footpeg location is quite rearward and somewhat high.

Hijack alert...!!!

No experience with these. I would like to hear from someone who has tried the Wunderlich Touring Wellness bars and how they compare with standard bar backs. My old back prefers the "sit up and beg" riding position.

Hi,

Would like some info on this as well, like... did you need to get longer cables etc.. width as well, photo's etc would be great.. i'm looking at doing this myself.. and it would save a lot if there was any issues in fitting, looks or riding style.

I never liked stock handle bars on 1150R. I do more touring than aggressive sports riding. I found some really funky bar backs that raised the bars about 1.5 inch up and about 1.5 inch back. It helped a bit but was not enough for me. I like more upright position. One day I got in the mail Wunderlich catalog with price list for all the parts they sell. I ordered touring bars and crash bars from http://www.bmwsatnacruz.com
I had to reroute clutch and chock line on the left side and break line on the right side. Also the gas tank had to come off in order to run trough the handle bars the wires for the heated grips. I am planning to order a longer break line for the front, but for now it is OK. After all, I am using touring bar in conjunction with my bar backs. The Wunderlich touring bars are about 34 inches wide and the handles of the bar are about 30 degree more inverted, plus about 3 to 4 inches higher than original bars. The first time I took my bike for a spin, it did feel like my bike lost about 150 pounds. If you use you bike for a long trips, I highly recommend this set up. Touring handle bars and crash bars, plus an AeroFlow tall screen with tank wings and day-long seats, makes my bike more touring bike than RT. :D :D :D

Thanks, TicTac, for the post. I believe I've heard from you about the bars before. Are the set back measurement changes you posted the total with the touring bars and the bar backs together? Do you think just the touring bars alone would be more set back than the bar backs alone?

Thanks for your input.

Avagnon.
I know what you are looking for. In my younger years I've spent an over decade making custom crash bars and handle bars for the lighter bikes. Just put the bike on the central stand and sit on the bike in the upright position. Put your hands on the imaginable handle bars. Make a note where your hands are. Your arms need to be slightly bent at the elbow and in the wrist area and your knuckles need to be inverted about 20-30 degrees. Find the most comfortable position and try to adjust touring bars with the bar back to that position. Mark the chicken stripes before you take your bike for a spin and check your chicken stripes after about 100 miles. You will see a BIG improvement. I am sorry about incorrect information. The angle is bout 10-15 degrees more in and it is about 2 inches higher than original bars, but the 34 inches is correct. I am 6 ft. tall with long arms. I have tried without the bar backs but I needed another 1.5 inch for the upright position and the better control of the bike. I am kind of metric guy and have problem with inches, but my girlfriend said that 1.5 inch more is a lot. :D :D :D
Get the touring bars, you will never regret it. :) :) :)
