Eye bolt fasteners

Hi All

The wife and I are going on leave in a couple of weeks and I want to tow the R behind the car and use it for our day rides.

I was thinking of using these 8mm eye bolts in the front to strap the bike down. Any suggestions/comments?

Just kidding I read that somewhere heh heh.

I don't really like the idea of anything extra bolted to the aluminum.

I was thinking if i had a trailer i would try to mount this stand that i was using for a short time before i got my center stand. It does have some holes for tiedowns too.

I'm no expert about this but I'm sot sure that I would trust those eye bolts.

Why not tie it down by the bars like most do.

btw...I once rode my bike to a trailer show..

I've seen this reference a number of times. I've tried to figure out how to tie down my 1150R at the fork without damaging brake lines, and haven't had any luck. I've seen pictures of the official BMW shipping instructions. They aren't clear, but it looks like the tie down straps attach somewhere near the upper front shock springs.

I've also been afraid to tie the R-bike down with the handle bars. Again, lots of cables and hoses that can get damaged. Also, the bars don't seem to be all that substantial.

I'm open to suggestions.

I would hook to the handlebars before I used those eye bolts. If the straps don't clear the bike use a Canyon Dancer.

I always looped tiedown extensions around the forks of the GS- then hooked the tiedowns to those. But the front fender on the R makes it a little trickier. Maybe remove the fender?

I have thought about removing the fender to trailer the bike, but it seems a little excessive. Surely the bike isn't shipped from Germany with the front fender removed. If you look at the attached shipping photo, the fender is attached and the straps hook high on the frame, somewhere.

When I purchased my 03 R last October from an owner in Cincinati I tied it down in the back of my pickup to bring it home to Pittsburgh just like it shows in these instructions and it worked great the bike never moved this method allows the front end to act normally like if it was on the rode and as it explains you need to tie the bike down this way due to the telelever front suspension...........Jerry
