I needed a new car, but not this way. The damage was caused by illegal immigrants without insurance, without driver's license, without English, and without common decency (which isn't so common anymore anyway). They did, however, have plenty of booze. Two of them fled the scene. The other two will no doubt be taking an expense paid trip back to Mexico (if they have not already sold everything they had and fled), while I, on the other hand, get to stay in the States and haggle with the insurance company for a "not at fault" accident and try to make adjustments during the holidays. Yeah.

50 mph collision. They were given 5 citations. My daughter was taken by ambulance to the hospital and then released later the same night. No serious injuries - except for the hit my premiums are going to take now. I am thankful for deployment of the airbags and the strength of the seatbelt - even though they leave bruises. I am very, very thankful I still have my daughter. SHE is priceless and could never be replaced.

Geez Kristi! I'm surprised you didn't start blazin' away at them. Sure glad you guys are okay.

Try to have a good Thanksgiving anyway and as you said, at least you are both still fairly healthy after the ordeal. The car didn't look like it fared too well though.

The car can be replaced. It is good that you all are OK. Wouldn't it be great to be able to throw them in debtors prison, or something like that.

I am so glad you two are OK after seeing those pictures. But, I am so sorry you have to go through all this, especially during the holidays.

As Phil already said, try to have a good Thanksgiving, and I will be saying a Thank You for you and your daughter's safety at dinner tomorrow.

My initial post was unclear. I'm fine. Not in the car - I only suffer as the mom of a bruised/banged up drama queen. Drama queen, but my best friend too.

yeah, something like that.....

Unfortunately, it would be hard for them to pay back the damages if they are in prison. I would rather throw them into my service for a few years - Yard work, house work, house repairs, ......... but shackled of course.

What would also be great is if insurance companies would not raise premiums for "not at fault" accidents. How decent would that be?

What would also be great is if the problem of porous borders would be fixed!

Don't they have no-fault insurance in Texas?

On the bright side, if I remember correctly, you've already done a lot of research on your next auto purchase.

I hate to hear of your troubles. But you certainly recognized the top priority. You and your daughter being, relatively, OK is great news.

FWIW: Our oldest son is a State Trooper. I'm afraid your story is being repeated all across the country.

I have a lot of different policies, but I've never heard of no-fault insurance. Is no-fault insurance the same as un-insured motorist insurance? If so, I have that, and Am-Pac is going to pay me, but my premiums are still going to go up.

The biggest thing I'm dealing with now (and this ain't so bad) is deciding what I really want in a vehicle. I'd really like a fast performance car. But, maybe that can wait, because I would like to be able to haul my bikes around as well. Maybe a few years from now, that won't be as important to me and then maybe that would be the right time to get the sports car. If I knew what the next 3-6 months held for me, I would be able to determine what I want. And if I knew what I wanted, this would be a lot easier.

Glad to know you both came away without serious injury. Know what you mean about your daughter, I have two teen-aged sons that mean the world to me. My Thanksgiving will have a little extra meaning for me now; in addition to all the things in my world that I'm thankful for, I'll also be thankful that you and your daughter are home and having Thanksgiving, too.

I say it's a good thing you were in the car and not on your bike or we wouldn't be having this conversation. We're all glad you're both OK with just a few nasty bruises. Seeing those crashed car pics says a lot !!!! Wanted to say so over your home phone prior to posting, but got no answer.

About the ILLEGALS, readers in Pat's PlayHouse might suspect President CycleRob, after 9-11, the potential for more domestic attacks and too many American Citizens killed by criminal or drunken ILLEGALS, would have a fence, predator drones and satelite guided soldiers with machine guns to ensure that NO one gets thru. After a few are disabled, word gets out - - - and no one gets thru, the ILLEGAL traffic will stop completely.

Think about it. I have. We almost lost a valued and talented key member in this senseless accident. What a buzzkill and permanent stain on this board that would have been. Seatbelts and airbags changed her future for the better. Kristi, I'm glad you're coherent enough to be angry and unforgiving. That's a good sign and in a few months you'll be yourself again . . . with a new car (truck?). I'm guessing the severe impact, airbag bomb going off and caring for your injured daughter distracted you from "going postal" and taking down the 2 dirtbags fleeing the scene. Kudos to Texas law and the 2nd amendment.

I really don't think I would have had the presence of mind to go after illegal aliens even if I was in the car. But I agree with you, Rob. It's a real problem everywhere, but I think those of us who live in the border states see the worse of it. A couple of summers ago I was on vacation with my daughter and her friends in the TX hill country and I saw the obvious activity of 'coyotes' bringing in illegals. I did my civic duty then. I stalked them, made sure of my suspicion, and then had someone call Border patrol. BUSTED!

I'm hoping to start test driving vehicles next week. I won't get much for the Infinity; probably just enough to pay TT&L. Still don't know what I'm looking for, though. I'll post a picture of it whenever I do find something. Thanks again for your concern.
