I sold Out to power!
Purchased a 2004 Yamaha FJR. I still own the R but I don't think I can keep both bikes. The FJR has endless power and runs like a turbine jet. The R feels more like a P51 fighter, I love them both.

Congrats on your new bike...I don't think you should feel guilty about it...
When I was shopping for used RR's (I eventually purchased a 2003 R1150R -- non-ABS), a Yamaha dealer told me that I should consider an FJR. However, he told me that I needed to be mindful of the year, as there are differences. I never rode it but when I sat on it the seat felt a bit wide for my build -- but not too bad. Even used, they are fairly pricey compared to a used R. Still, sounds like a cool bike. And a lot of people speak quite highly of them.

I tried to look @ FJR, ST1300 & Concours when I was shopping but none of the local dealers had them (I'm in a rural part of NY). The Yamaha dealer called me a few months later and said that he had one in that was already sold but that I could look at. The Honda dealer offered to bring in an ST but I was still in the looking phase and didn't want to feel in any way committed. The Kawasaki dealer didn't have any sales staff 'available' to offer any information at all. If there had been any of the three available used and local I would have given them a hard look.
Does the FJR have a cool newsgroup like this one?

The FJR is very powerful and stable, much better helmet clearance when carrying a second rider. On the other hand the R seems to handle much better with a much higher peg clearance and a 9" shorter wheel base. I've already hit the pigs twice on the FJR and only did that once in 5000 miles with the R. I never had a lick of problems with the R and I will miss that bike, if I only had a third garage
