Blast from the past and apology for lame post

Post by MattnLA »

hi all,

Yes, some of you may remember me. I have been long gone. All is well though. Have not been riding nearly enough. Life has gotten in the way of Mattie's spare time. So much so that I am sitting with a dead battery. I KNOW this has been gone over ad nausea, but I couldn't find it in the archived threads where I would expect it.

Need a new battery. Please direct me to the thread that discusses various options and recommendations.

Thanks.

Matt

There are probably many, many threads about what battery to buy and why. Most all of them will tell you the same thing. The Odyssey PC 680 seems to be the hands down favorite. They have gone up in price substantially in the past year. I paid $75 two years ago. I think you can expect to pay $120-$130 now. You can Google it and find many sources. It's a maintenance free battery and I believe it's considered a dry cell.

Have yet to hear anything negative on this board about this battery (other than the price).

Hey, Matt... wasn't it you, SoCalRob, and myself who got together a few years back at the Rockstore? Good to hear from you again, now get a new battery and maybe we can do it again, soon.

thanks for the replies.

yes, Ed, that t'was I.

ok, Odyssey it is. does it come charged, or will it need to be charged when it arrives?

will my standard battery tender work with that, or do I need different one?

thanks

Matt,

The Odyssey will come charged but you will not know how long it has sat on a shelf. Charge it fully with your battery tender - go about 6 hours past the green light, 12 hours first full charge cycle perhaps.

After that, it is nearly fire and forget.

Take a look at the Odyssey website. This battery is more like a deep cycle battery in some ways. I think it likes a stiff jolt when it's discharged. You only trickle charge it to top it off.

Ah.... here you go. http://www.odysseybatteries.com/charging.htm

I bought an Odyssey battery a while back...works just fine. Get this, I was researching the Odyssey and I read that it's lineage is from MIL-Spec requirements. The specification requires that the battery must be able to be stored for up to seven years, and when pulled and installed for use, it must have a FULL charge. So you will not need to "top it up" when you get one.

Matt,

Top it off anyway. MILSPEC ain't what it used to be. (Neither is the definition of "full charge")
