Removing front fork

Post by thenok »

Hi!

I have oil leak in right front fork leg. I am going to dismantle the fork myself and deliver it to the dealer so the bike will be ready for a new season, when the snow is gone. Have anyone done this earlyer. Do i need some special tools to get it loos from the top mounting?

If you only have a leaky fork seal you can probably change it yourself. It really is one of the easiest tasks to do because of the telelever design. Once you loosen the inner/upper leg where it connects to the top clamp the forks are no longer held still - they wiggle in all directions whilst still being connected at the wheel. The inner leg will drop into the outer leg and you can slide it out. Then its a simple matter of carefully levering out the dust cap and fork seal and fitting a new one.

Unless you've lost a lot of fork oil I wouldn't worry about the oil level - there are no damping related parts in the forks.

Do a search on fork seal and you should find several previous posts on it.

Good luck - tell us how you go.
