ABS Red Light

Hi, when I start my bike in the mornings I get the red ABS light come on. On tick over it stays on but as soon as I twist the throttle a little it goes out and stays out? Does anyone know if this is normal or do I have a problem? (Yeah I know I have a problem) but does the bike?

It should stop flashing go off when you hit about 15 km/h, after it had self-diagnosed.

The ABS runs diagnostics and calibrates itself. The front wheel needs to spin past the ABS sensor a certain amount (like one or two revs) which is easily accomplished in the first 10 feet or so of movement.

One note of caution: The system does not like you using the brakes during this diagnostics/calibration period. The only time I remember running into a problem is if I happend to be backing out of a parking space and need to use the brakes due to a sloping surface, etc. In that case, the diagnostics may fail and the ABS brakes won't work -- it will be pretty obvious and the light will indicate this. The simple solution is to turn off the engine a few seconds and start over -- this has always cleared up the problem for me.

It does make me pay a bit more attention to where/how I park the bike.

That sounds less like the ABS light and more like the behavior of the Alternator light. That is correct behavior for the alternator light as well, since it takes a few RPM to get the alternator to self excite and start charging the battery.
