I was able to get my riding buddy back into the saddle!

Post by bruno71 »

After laying off of her feet for about six weeks now, since her surgery, my best buddy and riddingpartner saddled up for a few quick miles on some local mountain roads. Plus, I think she was tired of seeing me riding her bike every chance I could take.
First we did a quick warmup trip to the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon and took a few pictures, We then cut back through town and went up imigtation canyon pass to Dell Reservour and mad a loop around the rather twisty mountain roads of hwy 65 & 66. 150+ miles later, we were back into our driveway-safe-and-sound.

As you can see, we wore the one pice Olympian suits (fully vented). The temps ranged between 94-86 degrees F. For the most part, the suits were bearable as long as you did not set in one place too long, and the black material on the back of the legs tended to heat up a bit in direct sunlight. IMO, the suit can be worn in weather up to 95-100 degrees comfortably if you use a cooling vest. Otherwise, 85 degrees is about the cutoff for this specific piece of gear. At any significant speed, they were neally not much of an issue. I plan to ride the suit again on my next long ride to either Salmon, Idaho or the upcoming sport touring ralley in Colorado. Depending on the type of riding you do, I think these olympia suits are a pretty darn good piece of gear for the money. My wife really likes her's and, by her own admission, she is'nt always easy to please.

Fondly,

Den,
The Bandit is a great bike--light, plenty of power, great riding position, bit of wind protection but not too much, and easy to maintain. IN terms of quality, it is on the other end of the spectrum from the BMW. That being said, I think BMW quality IMHO is head and shoulders above other bikes. The Suzuki is better than the Kawasaki's that I have had, but not quite as god as the Hondas. Where you make up that ground in a big way is price. BMWs are nice, but for the money, they can be a bitter pill to swallow. The Suzuki tends to have average quality out of the box, but you tend to get a lot for your money (talking Bandit line here only). My wife's Bandit has plenty of power-rated at 78 hp-but weighs about 400 lbs. Also, the Bandits tend to have a lower seat height compared to similar bikes. I nearly bought a Bandit 1250 for myself. However, at the end of the day, I suppose that I'm a BMW guy. I enjoy taking my wife's bike out for some quick canyon carving, but I ould need to spend a couple of $K to get the suspenders, seat and isolate the handlebar vibration to get it where it needs to be for long trips.

Congrats on getting your riding buddy back.
I am envious of your neighborhood. We have the same temps, but 4x the humidity and bugs. And no Christmas trees.
