Exhaust

Post by lucagoa »

Hello,

just thinking about new exhaust :-k :-k I would like to have some more characteristic sound from my bike.
Anyone of you has experienced Akrapovich or Remus?? My biggest doubt is: I don't know how they sound! Unfortunately in Italy free exhaust are not allowed, therefore I've to stick to something that is ok for our DOT.
Any suggestion/advice will be greatly appreciated.

....i really like my akrapivic (no buffles).....it's notably louder and gives you a very throaty sound.......but some people don't like it and leave the buffles in. with the buffles in, the sound is very close to the OEM pipe....can't talk about the power change......i personally do not feel any changes in power.....maybe a little more kick in the upper RPM's......some people say that you may loose a little power in the lower band if you remove the buffles.....personally.....i do NOT feel any change......wish somebody put's the bike on the dino and runs with and without buffles......the only way to judge the power output. the akrapovic is also a lot lighter the OEM and fits/looks perfect on the bike. it took me about 15 minutes to wiggle the OEM pipe off (finally put a little WD40 in the joint, waited 2 minutes and the pipe came off very easily).....it took less then 10 minutes to put the akra on. overall i am very happy with the purchase.
i heard a lot good thing about remus also....but since i do not have it, i can't talk about it. do a search here and you will find plenty of information and opinions.
good luck

I love my BOS Carbon Fiber Oval can witch has european aproval for the road and also has a removable db eater whitch I took out and then it sounds great(but not to loud). Also love the way the angle is compared to the oem can. I guess you should be able to get the BOS exhaust in Italy(in the usa there is no suplier). Normally there's a decal with the BOS logo on the can but I left it off as I love the all black cf look.

Love the steep angle of the BOS witch will still alowe for systemcases to be mounted.

BOS is also a lot closer to the rear wheel with makes the bike look realy tight from behind.

I went with the Remus Power Cone...Didn't think it was load enough (even with baffel out) so I ordered the balance of the system..now running a Full Remus system. :smt033 Louder than stock...but

not in the league with the the full LeoVince titanium system I had on my Aprilia...now that was a screamer.

The $99 question: Was it worth the money... I think I spent about $1500 could have been $1800 on the full system I try not to remember, and I'm not interested in diggin out the receipt. :?

I came off and incredibly loud bike, between the exhaust and the honking intake the bike was deafening. With such a warped basis the stock exhaust would not do, neither would the slip on - FOR ME.

Was it worth it??? not sure.. I like the look of the power cone alot more than the stock, but I keep thinking I could have gutted the stock exhaust and saved the money... Tough choice..If I had a quiter reference point I probably would have stopped with the slip on.

Skippy,

I love your BOS carbon fiber can! It looks especially sharp on the black bike. It is the first after market exhaust I've seen that makes me want to switch from stock.

Thanks! It's a shame that they aren't being sold in the USA(from what I understand from other forum members who also liked it but couldn't get one) and with the dollar these days buying it online and having it send is a pretty expensive option. I also agree that the Carbonfiber looks great withn the black bike.

Somewhere on the forum someone posted that the BOS was avaiable through Robert Foster Design ( I think that was the name) but I could not find anything about them on the net. FWIW The BOS is to my eye the best complement to the R.

I had a remus hexacone and remus headers on my R1200Gs. the bike was too loud and blatty with both. Since I wanted to retain the power advantage of the headers I put the stock can back on with the remus headers and it sounds great. I would lean towards akra, i think they sound better, less blatty, like a beefed up stock sound but deeper.
