I have two bikes. One is a 2002 R1150RT with handlebar risers, lowered footpegs and a Cee Bailey #3 6" higher windshield. It is very comfortable because of the upright seating position and the windshield.
The R1200R has the footpegs lowered but I have to reach for the handlebars. I want to move the handlebars back on the R1200R about 3.5 inches and up one inch. Using the touring handlebar alone does not move it enough. Adding riser/barbacks with the touring handlebar presents cable and wiring problems associated with the combination.
From the website;
Everyone who proudly owns the new 1200 R knows that it is a versatile bike that combines great handling, a strong motor and lots of character. With various aftermarket parts available such as screens, footrests and bags it can be transformed into a great touring machine. The last link for a perfect touring experience are the handlebars. The “Touring-R” are slightly wider, reach further back and are closer to the rider than the original. This lets the rider assume an upright and relaxed riding position. The length is (without bar weights) 800 mm (31.5”) compared to the original 770 mm (30.3”), and it reaches 65 mm (2.6”) further back (can be varied depending on fitting angle). It is suitable for use with the original heated grips, and is sold with a set of aluminium anodised handle bar weights and a longer brake line. Made of high gloss chromed steel. TÜV approved.
Note: Cannot be used together with handle bar risers as cables + wiring will be too short.

I have read that using the GS cables helps but does anyone know if the wiring is really too short or could be rerouted?
If I can only use the touring handlebars I will have to live with that.
In addition to the upright seating I also want to add a windshield. I am 6'1" with a 30" inseam. What shield should I buy?
I was going to use the RT for days below 35 degrees and rain days. Once the R is set up I will be selling the RT. I wanted to keep both but that isn't in the cards right now.
Any help will be appreciated.

Oh, boy.. where were you two months ago?...BobbyLeBout wrote:In addition to the upright seating I also want to add a windshield. I am 6'1" with a 30" inseam. What shield should I buy?
I bought V-Stream's standard and tall windscreen. I liked the way they looked a lot, but I couldn't ride the bike at speed with either screen in place - the turbulence was that bad. I then bought BMW's Touring screen and mount, which did work much better, but still gave me more buffeting than I was willing to deal with. After reading every post about windscreens in this venue, I decided to go for it and bought Cee Bailey's 20" screen, which bolts right up to BMW's tall screen mount. Perfect.. enough protection that I can ride the bike at 80mph all day with a 3/4 helmet (90+ degree temps in NC in the summer), and still get enough wind to let me know that I'm riding a motorcycle, and not sitting in a cage.
You might do search for "Windshield" or "Windscreen" and see what you come up with.
As far as the bars go, I installed a pair of Verholen bar-backs, and they work perfect (for me). They are expensive, but the quality is top notch, and with the weak dollar vs. the Euro, I guess it's to be expected.
I recently rode the bike 1100 miles over a 3-day weekend, and the bars and windscreen worked great. I also have a pair of Suburban Machinery low-peg mounts, which make the bike fit me to a "T".
Hope that helps...

While this subject is very much a case of YMMV, I too am 6'1" with a 30" inseam and am quite happy with my setup:
Parabellum Scout Fairing unpainted with 20" shield $499

Mototechniques 513-062M Handle Bar Riser $49.95

With my Russell Day Long Saddle, I'm good to go for, well, all day long.

+1 on the MotoTechniques bar risers. They bring the bars up and back just enough that I don't have to reach down. And, they are much cheaper than most of the other options.
Can't help with the windshield, still looking myself, and I am waaaaay shorter than you. Waiting for Don to give us a review of his latest purchase but that's another thread.
Now you need a Rick Mayer seat and you will be all set!!
