I might have my newly powder-coated wheels up for sale in a month or two, and just want to see if anyone around here is interested? I know the rear wheel costs about $850 new, so I assume the front is also around there in price, so with that said I would start my price for the (used) white wheels at $1600 + shipping. Just the wheels, no brake rotors, tires, etc....

Joe - you do realize that sort of spoked rim requires the use of tubes, which somewhat limits the choice of tire (tyre) you can fit to it..

Just a mention, I'm sure you've considered that..

these look like the wheels of GS....I was asking the same question today when I was at the dealers....what a coincedense.....they said they never tried to put the GS wheels on the R....are you sure the mounting holes will fit?

I have considered that, after the initial inspection of my bike they will be able to tell me if they can make them tubeless - something that can be done. They've never made wheels for a 1200R so we are in uncharted territory they said...
I will be going to a 150 rear tire and keeping the front a 120.
This is all very early in the process, first they have to see if they can use a GS rear hub, and take measurements to fabricate a front hub for the R. Then I will find out the cost and weigh my options, which might include selling my white wheels.

I'm just feeling around, planting seeds... reasonable offers considered

I was told between $2000 and $3000ish depending if they had to fabricate both hubs if the GS rear doesn't fit. It's unlikely the front will, but possible with the rear. Then there's spokes, lacing style, finish, tubeless, etc to choose from. Either way it's going to be costly - why I'm looking into selling my wheels to offset the cost.
The fabricator is going to go down to Denver BMW to look at my bike in the next month so I'll keep you posted.

GS spoke rims are tubeless, at least the ones on mine are. The spokes anchor to the edge of the rim outside the bead of the tire permitting a tubeless tire to be used. My Aprilia Caponord (now sold) was that way also.

FWIW, I watched an episode of Livin the Low Life on SPEED last weekend and they had a segment where the hostess (Vida Guerra) was lacing up spoked rims for a low rider car rim company and they were the old fashoned nipple inside the wheel make up so I was thinking "how are they going to keep air in those things?" Well the answer was the nipples were coated inside the rim with some type of epoxy. Who new?

I saw wires on a r1150r? last week.. THey looke dpretty cool. I'm sure it was not a rockster..

The oil cooler was split... A wing on each side of the engine. I fthat helps in ID.

I'm familiar with it - but I've never seen anyone but BMW use it. I'm surprised the Aprilia had that design - BMW holds the patent on it. I do know people who have tried making up rims using GS parts to fit other bikes, but apparently lacing the GS rim is something not many wheelmakers can accomplish... and for using stock GS rims on an R12R - I think you'd have clearance problems with the front rim and the lower fork-slider bridge the fender attaches to. The rims Joe showed were standard center-laced rims, which do require a tube and tube type tire.

Dan, I saw mention that MotoGuzzi had licensed the patent from BMW, so.. doesn't Aprilia own MG? (Or is it someone else this month.. Harley? Hard to keep track of the Italian company owners..)

I did not... they sure do look very nice though... like most Italian designed things...
It's just too convenient that my bike is being stored in the same city as Woody's Wheel Works, and they come highly recommended from many sources.
