Bike needs New Tires... Metzeler M3 Z6 Pirelli Strada....

Anyone got any pics of the front tire with Cont Road Attacks on it? I was totally surprised that the tread direction on the front is opposite by the rear. Or that is what I have been told...

The mileage might not be a problem because I'll probably use the TDM for commuting......... Hmm, thoughts.........riceburner wrote:I had a M1 Front and Z6 rear for a bit - VERY good combo for grip, feedback etc, but the life of the front wasn't good. (ie about 5K max).
Dunlop
Amen to the Dunlop's. I still can't figure why BMW's come with Dunlop's?
I found the Z6's to be much more "friendly" than the Dunlop's. And wear better.

Just different then my old dunlops. The tires had one large arrow that front ran through and then it had a bunch of tiny arrors pointing the opposite direction. Kinda confusing if you ask me...riceburner wrote:what difference would it make though???hevnbnd wrote:Anyone got any pics of the front tire with Cont Road Attacks on it? I've a feeling thats it's because the rear tread is in once direction to transmit maximum power and the front is in the opposite for maximum braking. - but I've no idea either where I read it or from where it was dredged in what I laughingly call my brain

Well new tires back on and ran it down the street. Got a little crazy at first.
forgot that they are slick. But got a foot down and all was good. They seem to grip well once I rode it around a few mins. Will know a little more next week when it ventures back up in to the 70s again. Thanks for all the input. New tires on at 1825 miles. Lets see if they are still on it at 7k.

Well, They are done at 5850. So I got a little over 4k out of the Cont Road Attacks. The front is showing threads on one side and the rear is flat in the middle. Is that good or should I be looking for a new brand to replace these? All of my riding in in town very very little on the highway?

I'd say that's pathetic mileage and sort of mirrors my own experiences with Conti Road Attacks (2 pairs - neither lasted more than 3K). to be showing threads on the FRONT is scary.hevnbnd wrote:Well, They are done at 5850. Diablo Stradas would be my next choice (I've not tried the Pilot power 2CTs yet - but have heard good things so will be trying them the next time I change both tyres)./

Well I ordered some Stradas. They should be here next week and go on very soon.

Here's my experience.
I commute daily, traffic lights etc. I also do fast day rides about 600km and some distance riding, rallies etc.
I usually use M3 front, Z6 rear. Usually M3 5400km, Z6 9800km.
I believe due to the traffic I get a square spot front/centre (half wear), probably 'cause of the telelever? Who knows. It does affect turn in. Great grip but.
Last change, even wear to the edges; 7000km even (how, dunno?)
I currently have an M1 Front I got for half price, but naturally wouldn't expect much so probably won't report on it. I do have plans to try Pilots F & R to see if milage improves. Pure experiment really.
I do believe the M3/Z6 combo to be damn good though.
Sorry, but you guys can do the km/miles conversion.

Re: Bike needs New Tires... Metzeler M3 Z6 Pirelli Strada....
I have road attacks on my r12r and they are a great tyre . At 7600km now and should get 10000km out of them - they stick like sh*t to a blanket. never had the slightest hint of them letting go and i'm getting to the edges. Want to try metzlers next as thats what ive always used on my previous bmw's

The Pilot Road 2 is a nice tire. good balance of grip and wear, and they handle nicely.

Re: Bike needs New Tires... Metzeler M3 Z6 Pirelli Strada....
I just installed new Conti Road Attack "C" front and rear. I replaced the rear ~500mi before the front. I replaced Metzeler Z6 f & r. I have no complaints. The tread patterns are indeed reversed front to rear. I first saw them and thought the tire tech goofed. I checked and the arrows are pointing in the proper direction. I'll keep track of tread wear and let everyone know. My riding is varied, quick trips around town, spirited mountain and winding roads plus highway riding. After ~500mi on the rear, I can still see the embossed lettering "Conti Attack" on the tires. The printing in the center is harder to read.
More later.

Re: Bike needs New Tires... Metzeler M3 Z6 Pirelli Strada....
When I bought my 2004 Rockster, it came with Conti Road Attacks. They seemed fine so when it came time to replace them, I stuck with the Contis.
I just replaced the rear which had a bit over 13,000 miles on it. I use the bike mainly for commuting and don't drive it hard at all. The tire was well worn and flattened in the middle but fine for commuting.
The front tire now has about 11,000 miles and needs to be replaced. I will be shopping for another Road Attack soon.

I found great deals on tires at www.jakewilson.com, free shipping over $100 and they have a Feb special going on now. I got a f/r set of Conti Road Attack "C" for <$250 delivered.
