Foot Rain Protectors

I got caught in a light rain again last evening on my 2004 R1150R and about all that ever gets really wet on me is from the knees down. I did some searching on the 'net for deflectors that would protect my legs and especially my feet from what I would guess is the splash of water from the front tire. I came up empty on the search. Any suggestions (other than a full fairing bike )?

I did some more searching and found Wunderlich guards for above and below the heads to protect legs and feet. They're rather proud of their stuff. $200+ for the upper guards and $100+ for the lowers. Looks like Lexan (or similar) and a couple simple brackets. I think I'll take a good close look at my bike for potential mounting points and make my own. If there are other brands I'm still open to suggestions.

How about overboots. Cheaper and easy to remove, just pull the velcro tape and their off.

Hmmm...I like the Aerostitch overshoes. They might tide me over, unless I decide to throw caution and budget to the wind and buy the $200+ waterproof riding boots I'd like to have.

A good pair of waterproof boots that also offer crash protection is a much better solution!

Besides, any ugly deflectors that block rain will also block cooling air in the summer, making you too hot!

Those ugly deflectors do a fantastic job of blocking the wind to help keep your feet and legs warm. A plus no matter what kind of cold weather pants you wear. One pleasant side effect is the almost complete elimination of buffeting for those of us with large windshields. When it gets warm, you just take the deflectors off.

Keep in mind that the Wunderlich guards won't mount with their crash bar installed. I made my own out of truck mud flaps for the ultimate in ugliness.

Take my comments with a grain of salt, since I ride year round here in the NC mountains with only a flyscreen! I may not be the best consultant in 'comfort riding' field.

However, waterproof boots with crash protection is still a good idea, regardless of wind/rain protection. Heck, buy some ugly ones if it goes with the rest of the bike!

The benefit of the Aerostitch units is that they are easy to slip on and off. Just rip the velcro tape. They also fold up real small for transport.

Goretex Boots are worth every penny. I was lucky and found a pair of BMW Goretex Boots a few years ago on closeout for $77. I saved over $200, but I wish I had bought a second pair.
