Greetings all,

I've been lurking here for a few months to hear what you have to say about your R1200R's. You convinced me, just signed the deal today on a new 2008! Have been thinking about a replacement for my F650CS for a while and was considering the F800ST, however I found it to be a bit too small for me. Here is what I got:
2008 BMW R1200R
Crystal Grey Metallic
Safety Package w/ ABS
Heated Grips
On board computer
Center stand
Sport Windshield

Decided to go for a after-market tankbag, likely a RKA. Thanks to all for your posts which helped me make up my mind!

I stepped up from a F650CS too. The R1200R has everything you probably liked about that bike, and improves everything you didn't. I'm all smiles on mine.

Only thing... my wife claims she liked the look of the 650CS better though

I noticed your location and thought I would say welcome. I watch the site and have gained invaluable information from various posts.
Once the weather gets a bit better, I'm taking a ride up to Whistler to take a look at the venues for the 2010 Olympics. I'm over on Vancouver Island, would take the first ferry over.
Hopefully meet you at Horseshoe Bay and ride up from there.

Welcome! I also bypassed the F800ST on the way from CS to R12R - in my case, the F800S & ST were just uncomfortable . The R-R seemed more familiar to a CS rider - rather than a completely different kind of bike.

I stepped up from a F650CS too. The R1200R has everything you probably liked about that bike, and improves everything you didn't. I'm all smiles on mine.

Another F650CS rider, only I still have mine for city riding and short blats aroudn tight roads The R12R does feel like a grown-up CS in some really nice ways though I can wiggle the CS much more quickly and easily around the city. On the open road the telelever (with Wilbers), serious midrange torque plus better brakes take the touring experience up by a quantum leap.

Only thing... my wife claims she liked the look of the 650CS better though

Keeping both solved this problem! Women love the CS, and I love riding it. Serendipity!

Any comments on good roads would be appreciated. We've got family in Whistler, Vancouver and Victoria, but the map is otherwise unmarked.
