Hello All,
I am looking to fit a rack on my 1100r. It already has a set of BMW panniers fitted with the standard grab rail. Can anyone tell me which rack I should use?

Re: Rear Rack for 1997 R1100R
Tas.. I have the BMW rack which was an option on the r1100r (standard on mine). It's a silver coloured thing with a reasonable size plate on it an grab handles integrated into it. I should think it will set you back £150 from a BMW dealer. If you want it to attach a top box, e.g Givi, then it may be worth buying the Givi monorack as it should be stronger - I cracked the plate on my BMW one after I fitted a Givi top box and the plate is £60 to replace on its own. Not sure of the Givi rack will fit with your BMW panniers and pannier arms though...

thanks for the information.
the idea that the bmw rack cracked is a little bit of a concern because the givi rack is not as cosmetically pleasing.
in the meantime i have been looking at a touratech solution. again, straying from the standard bmw looks, but more practical with the top loading panniers.

Take a look at Hepco&Becker's rear rack, which is, as of my opinion, a very useful alternative to the original racks and where you can mount easily a lot of things...
It is available for a lot of bikes, including your one (special fit).

Tas,
Sorry to be late to the party but below are links to photos of my bike with the GIVI rear rack - both with and without the monocase mounted. I've also posted the link to a pic with my bike totally loaded for long distance travel.
Hope these help.

I have been pleased with my Hepco-Becker rack. I bought a Hepco-Becker 40L Journey topcase to mount on it as well. I did have to remove the charcoal cannister to install the rack. The case has been great. I installed an additional LED brakelight on it as well.
